文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了微锻炼的一些相关知识。

1 . Many people lead busy lives and think they barely have time to work out every day.     1     They are short workouts that often involve high-intensity(高强度的)exercises. Here we explore some reasons to do micro workouts.

Require Less of a Time Commitment

Committing to exercising for a certain amount of time per week can be difficult, especially when you do not have the time or motivation to work out for an extended period. Microworkouts are good alternatives. They take up only 10 to 30 minutes of your day. Many people spend much longer scrolling through social media each day.     2

Make Scheduling Workouts Easier

It can be challenging to commit the time needed to exercise every day,but it can also be hard to fit a workout into a tight schedule. However, a study suggests that it may be possible.     3     For example, walking your dog, using the stairs, parking farther away from adestination, or walking during your lunch break are all ways you can try.

Need No Equipment

Investing in expensive home gym equipment can be a real burden. When you decide to domicro workouts, though, you don’t need a bunch of equipment.     4     For example, you may choose to do steps on your stairs, run on the spot, or even do some star jumps. Since youcan choose what type of workout you’d prefer to do, it means that you can exercise wheneveryou please.

5     Now that you know all about micro workouts, you can add them to your day.Get as creative as you please and think about the types of movements that suit you. You neverknow-it might just boost your health and wellness.

A.Ready to get moving?
B.You just fit it into your routine.
C.Fitness should be simple and convenient.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了运动类型的选择与个人性格特点之间的联系。

2 . People do physical exercise as part of their healthy lifestyle to get stronger and healthier.

There are three basic modes of physical exercise: flexibility exercise helps the human body in general or its part in particular to be able to reach farther and bend better; aerobic exercise helps the body work hard for a long time; anaerobic exercise makes the arms and legs stronger.

It has long been known that exercise is not only good for your body, but also for your mind. According to researchers, gymnasts are more likely to be emotionally stable, football players the most outgoing and swimmers the happiest.

The psychological study, which was carried out by experts, also revealed that sports can also offer clues to a person’s attitude to charity, reading habits and even their voting intentions. Boxers, for example, are most likely to focus on material possessions in life. Meanwhile, runners tend to be outgoing people who love being the centre of attention. Walkers, a group that includes those who enjoy wandering and cross-country races, are least concerned about other people and like doing things by themselves without interruption from others. Those who play chess are confident when they face challenges and trouble. Those who swim tend to be tidy and charitable. However, according to Mind Lab, 61 percent of adults are fond of helping others regardless of their choice of sports.

The results from this study also show that no matter what kind of person you are, there is the right kind of exercise for you.

1. Which of the following sports belongs to flexibility exercise?
A.Running.B.Swimming.C.Football.D.Gymnastics.
2. What can we learn from the text?
A.Walkers enjoy loneliness in their lives.
B.Boxers tend to ignore wealth in life.
C.Runners have great power of concentration.
D.Chess players like challenging other people.
3. Why does the author mention Mind Lab in Paragraph 4?
A.To make a contrast.B.To draw a comparison.
C.To place an emphasis.D.To give an example.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.How can you choose suitable sports?
B.What kind of sports can benefit you most?
C.How can sports keep you mentally healthy?
D.What does your choice of sports tell about you?

Eartha lost her balance and fell heavily onto the floor. “I’ll never be as flexible as you are, Grandma.” she sighed softly.

Eartha’s Grandma had been practising yoga for more than 50 years, who could twist, bend and curl her body with ease. She could even stand on her hands and pull her body into different poses.

“Eartha, your name means ‘patience’.You need patience for yoga,” said her Grandma.

Like many schools in the country,Eartha’ s school held an annual yoga competition. Eartha wanted to make her Grandma proud. But she could hardly stand on one leg.

Grandma returned to the kitchen.Eartha kept practicing hard. She stood straight, her arms at her sides. She moved her hands and knees, arching her back. All of these poses were easy, while the competition was certain to be harder. So she tried more challenging poses, lying on her stomach and pushing up on her hands. Her arms soon got tired and she collapsed to the floor. Eartha wandered into the kitchen.

“Finished already?” asked Grandma.

“It’s hard,” Eartha said. “How did you get to be so strong?”

Grandma smiled. “Patience.”

The next morning, Eartha felt ached and sore all over the body. Her legs hurt so badly from the poses she practiced that she even wanted to quit. However, her grandmother’s words echoed in her mind, and she held the pose for a longer time.

Each day Eartha would practice anew pose, before going over the poses she had practiced the previous few days. With the date of the competition approaching, she started to feel stronger and more flexible. Her arms and legs stopped trembling.

The day of the yoga competition arrived as expected. In the gym, Eartha lay on her back with her knees bent and placed her hands on the floor behind her. Everything went smoothly. Just then,so eager was she to win Grandma’s pride that her poses displayed a mix of impatience, and rigidness. Eartha fell on the mat, which cost her edge over other competitors. A bell rang, ending the first half of the competition.

“David, it’s time for breakfast,” Mrs. Motangi called. “There’s a birthday present for you to open.”

David ran into the kitchen and saw a shiny new soccer ball on the table. He smiled and started jumping up and down with excitement. “Can I take the ball to school with me, please?” asked David. “Of course,” Mrs. Motangi said. “But you need to be careful with your first real soccer ball.”

At school, David immediately put his soccer ball under his desk. During the morning lessons, he kept quietly tapping the ball with his foot to make sure it was still there. Finally, it was break time. David seized the ball and quickly ran outside. He kicked the ball skillfully across the field to a group of students.

Soccer was David’s favorite sport. Since he had arrived in England and started school two months ago, he had played soccer every day during the break. Break was always his favorite time because he didn’t have to speak English, a language that was still fairly new to him. When he played soccer, he would forget that he felt like an outsider at this new school

“Look!” called David. “I got a new soccer ball. We can use it for our game today.” The other students exchanged glances and just stared at David. These were the most words David had ever spoken to them.

“We don’t need your ball,” said a tall boy, Jacob. “We already have one.” Jacob liked playing soccer but poorly. Jacob kicked David’s ball with all his strength. The ball soared over the school’s high fence, bounced once, and rolled to the back of a nearby house. “What a good kick!” screamed the other kids, jumping up and down and slapping Jacob on the back. David watched in horror as his cherished football went out of sight, tears coming to his eyes. What would his mother say?

Thin, average, and undisciplined, I was the underdog of the boys’ basketball tryouts (选拔赛) in seventh grade. Making the team was very important to me. Although I was extremely nervous, I truly thought I would make the team. But I went in overly optimistic, and quickly faced a cruel reality check.

When on the court, I huffed and puffed like an old man on his last legs; clearly, I was out of shape and having trouble keeping up. When it hit me that this was only the first day, and that there was a second to follow, I realized I would have to step it up in order to gain a spot on the team.

Unfortunately, day two went exactly like day one: I missed shots, passed badly like an out-of-breath fool. Hoping the coach was not watching all my bad moves, I had trouble keeping a positive attitude. Finally, Coach-who at five-foot-four usually seemed small, posted the lists of the Boys A and B Teams. Everybody quickly ran to catch a glimpse of the chosen few.

After scanning the list once, twice, three times, my name was nowhere. Although I had predicted the disaster that had now settled on me, with my head hanging. I slowly walked to the car. This experience definitely had not gone as I planned.

On the way home, I complained “How could that foolish boy is a better choice than me? And…”

“Adam!” my mom cut me off. “Why don’t you realize maybe you need a little more practice? You’d better go to basketball camps next summer.”

Although I did not want to believe her, I knew it was true. Failing to make the team was nobody’s fault but mine. Right then and there, in the middle of my anger, I realized I had to get my act together.
