3 . My best friend traveled to stay with our family last weekend. When she arrived, she went straight to the kitchen and, without asking, ate a spoonful of raspberry jam and some dried fruit. She wasn’t being rude. I knew she would do this. We’ve known each other for almost 20 years. She can eat anything she wants from my kitchen. Indeed, I bought her favorite fruits and snacks at the shop that morning.

Our long weekend together was luxuriously (惬意地) simple. I was recovering from surgery (手术) and couldn’t go to shopping malls. We passed the time running errands (做杂事), going to the post office and collecting dry cleaning. We drank way too many cappuccinos. But we talked about every little detail of our lives.

There’s never been a quiet moment in our friendship. We’ve lived in different cities for almost a decade. Reunions demand constant conversation. our personalities are matched, to be sure, and a shared history is indescribably valuable. We were competitors in high school before bonding over a bad experience. Then we discovered the many interests that we had in common. Our friendship cemented (巩固) itself quickly. We stayed companions through law school, through our first jobs and our first boyfriends. We supported each other through break-ups and breakthroughs. Ours is a friendship for the ages.

There is something special about friends who know everyone and everything about you. They are rare. These are the people you’ve chosen to witness your life. They have seen the bright lights of achievement, the depths of despair (绝望) and the boring routine (平淡乏味) of the in-between.

It’s special to unpack feelings and frustrations without wasting time filling in the blanks. As my long weekend shows, with such friends we don’t have to “do”, we simply have to “be”. We drop the act, the performance, the public version of ourselves.

The special friendships are those which never fail to delight, the continuation of which is worth the extra effort, despite distance and difference sneaking (溜进) into your separate lives. I had the very great joy of this reminder last weekend. I’m lucky to have found this friend, to see a future where her companionship remains. Being together is perfection.

1. What happened during her best friend’s visit?
A.They enjoyed an eventful long weekend.B.They bonded by having long conversations.
C.They made their favorite snacks and coffee.D.They talked about recent news events.
2. One thing that the author appreciates about their friendship is that ______.
A.they help each other deal with the boredom of life
B.they prefer to witness each other’s lives from far away
C.they try to show each other their best selves
D.they are comfortable being themselves when together
3. Which of the following would the author agree with?
A.Charm comes from differences.B.Politeness brings best friends closer.
C.Good friendships last naturally.D.Good friendships need devotion.
4. The author’s main purpose in writing this article is to ______.
A.describe what her best friend is likeB.tell about the friendship she treasures
C.explore the key aspects of friendshipD.express thanks to her best friend

5 . Sometimes, you are not good at some of your subjects.     1     You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessary so, however. Anyone can become a better student if you want to. Here’s how:

Plan your time carefully. When you plan your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc., then decide a good, regular time for studying.     2     A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.

Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.

Make good use of your time in class.     3     Listening carefully in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teachers say.

Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material.     4     If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.

Develop a good attitude about tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. It helps you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be over worried.

5     You will probably discover them after you have tried these.

A.Maybe you are an average student.
B.This will help you understand the next class.
C.Don’t forget to set aside enough time for entertainment.
D.No one can become a top student unless he or she works hard.
E.There are other methods that might help you with your studying.
F.Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teachers say.
G.Make full use of class time to take notes of what the teachers say in class.

6 . 语法填空

At each stage of our life, we meet different kinds of people. Some are funny; some teach us lessons in life while others occupy a special space in our heart. The people     1     (call)“best friends” are just these special     2    (friend).

In our childhood, “best friends”might have meant the persons who are always by our side, whether it may be in the classroom or in the dining hall. However, as we are getting     3     (old) than before, our definition(定义)of “best friends” changes. In my opinion, best friends are those who love you     4     who you are and help you become who you should be. People in our life come and go, but some people stay. They are the people we should never lose.

True friends are those     5     will never leave you when you need them most. They are always there waiting for you and they love you when you forget to love     6     (you). The best feeling in the whole world is knowing that there is     7     person who always prays for us and always keeps us in his/her thought. Friendship may not     8     (necessary)be based on age, but it is based on     9     (understand). Even our parents also can be our best friends! So let us build our friendship and try our best     10     (see)the good side of everyone!

7 . 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

A remarkable study from 1976 gives us some insight into how and     1     relationships with our neighbors can be so good for us. Surprisingly to scientists at that time, results     2     (show) that contact with family members—even     3     (one)own children—had little impact     4     feelings of well-being or willpower. Meanwhile, friendships, especially those with neighbors, predicted lower levels of     5     (lonely)and worry, higher levels of feelings of usefulness and self- perceived respect within the community.

The study suggests that acquaintance and friendship with neighbors     6     (base)on nearness, common interests and lifestyle choices are more     7     (effect)at increasing well-being. The neighborhood relationships are also developed     8     (voluntary). Family ties, on the other hand, are often characterized by     9     sense of responsibility, physical distance, and personal disharmony. Later studies confirm the importance of close friendships for people over 65,     10     (highlight)the particular importance of frequent contact.

8 . The Forbidden City is well known for being full of Chinese cultural and historical relics. But Masters in the Forbidden City(《我在故宫修文物》)does not just focus on the stories of the past.

Instead, the documentary movie, which came out in Chinese cinemas on Dec. 16, focuses on ordinary people-the restorers(修复者)of relics and antiquities(古董).

The stories are told at a slow and relaxed pace, reflecting the restorers’ work. Restoration of cultural relics and antiques can be time-consuming, and sometimes boring. Yet these restorers’ patience and peace of mind are especially precious in a society where everything is changing so fast.

“If you choose this job, you have to stand hours of work sitting on a chair. You need to be quiet and get used to being quiet,” says Wang Jin, an ancient clock repair expert.

A touching part of the documentary is the spirit of craftsmanship(工艺)in the restorers. “Years of humdrum work requires not only skill, but also faith and spirit,” China Daily commented. “Looking for preciseness and perfection, devoting yourself to work, patience, endurance(忍耐), loneliness…All these qualities come from the craftsman spirit. ”

But unlike the popular idea of serious experts who sit around being serious, the documentary shows off the enthusiasm of the restorers. They play their guitars and make jokes about each other after a long day of restoration work.

One scene that has been very popular with Internet users features a young female restorer riding a bicycle through the empty Forbidden City on a Monday. While she is doing this, a narrator says, “The last person to do this was Puyi, the last emperor of the Oing Dynasty.”

Masters in the Forbidden City has proved wrong many people’s ideas about antique restorers, allowing them to realize that they are not old, dull professors, but people in their 40s, 30s and even 20s who can be quite pleasing to the eye.

1. According to the text, what’s the main purpose of the documentary Masters in the Forbidden City?
A.To show people how antiques are restored
B.To display relics seldom seen by ordinary people
C.To draw attention to Chinese antique restorers’ lives
D.To praise the craftsmanship of Chinese antique restorers
2. What can we learn from what Wang Lin says in paragraph4?
A.He often gets tired with his workB.There is no need to do restoration work fast
C.Antique restorers need to be patient and peacefulD.It takes years of hard work to adapt to antique restoration
3. What does the underlined word “humdrum” in paragraph 5 mean?
A.BoringB.DifferentC.RelaxingD.Unusual
4. What is the purpose of the bicyle-riding scene in the documentary?
A.To remind the audience of the last Qing emperor
B.To show the strange hobbies of young antique restorers
C.To encourage the young to consider a career in antique restoration in the future
D.To show that the documentary breaks from the old, dull image of antique restorers

9 . Do you often listen to music at loud volumes? You should know that this habit is bad for your hearing, according to the World Health Organization(WHO).

Over 1 billion young people are at risk of hearing loss due to listening to loud noises for long periods of time, WHO said.    1

The United Nations has standards for safe listening. It is not safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 85 decibels (dB,分贝) for eight hours or 100 dB for 15 minutes. The sound of a busy road is about 85 dB and the sound of a rock concert can be about 100 dB.

2     Most of us are born with about 16,000 hair cells(听毛细胞)in our inner ears. These cells detect sounds. However, listening to loud noises for a long time can make these cells work too hard and cause some of them to die.    3

Some people might think that their music isn't all that loud.     4    For example, if you are in a noisy place like the subway, you might turn up your music too loud without realizing it. Later, when you listen to it at the same volume in a quiet place, it may sound uncomfortably loud.

WHO said the “safe level” for most sound is below 80 decibels for up to 40 hours a week.     5    .

A.This is what causes hearing loss.
B.But this can depend on where you are.
C.Loud noises are harmful to the inner ear.
D.There are different ways to protect your hearing.
E.A level of 80 decibels is roughly equal to the noise of a subway.
F.Young people are more sensitive to different sounds than elder people.
G.Listening to music or watching a TV show at loud volumes can harm your hearing.

10 . How to Love Your Parents

Even if you think that your parents are mean-spirited at times , loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life. You love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part, a source of who you are.     1    .

A gentle “good morning” and “I love you” will warm a coldest heart. Remember that they brought you into this world. Without your parents, we might still wander at an unknown corner in an unknown world.

Respect them more and cherish these moments. You can use these moments to learn from them when you're off on your own. It's OK to get angry but angry actions don't help you or your parents. Act calmly, cool off, write down your feelings, or talk to a friend.     2    .

Obey their requests. It will make your attitude better and earn you more respect from them. It may seem like you are going through hell when you don't get what you want or you have to clean. However, you had better remember they keep a roof over your head when it's cold, raining, snowing, or too hot. Understand that parents are human beings and make mistakes.     3     Since you can forgive your friends, why not forgive your parents?

Keep company with them. Do things with your parents like watching TV, or go somewhere with them.     4     Listen to their old stories and learn from them. You will find they are your teachers in this way or another.

Some people simply may not be able to love their parents.     5     Seek help if you are being abused in any way. Parents do not have a right to harm you.

A.Parents will in turn express their love to you.
B.Forgiveness is the key.
C.Here are some ways to love your parents.
D.There can be realistic reasons for this, family violence for example.
E.Anyway, spend as much time with them as you can.
F.After this, share your feelings with your parents.
G.Please remember parents are as important as friends.
