文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了宇航员在训练中要面临各种挑战和困难。

1 . This year marks the 20th anniversary of China’s first manned space mission, with Yang Liwei becoming the first Chinese astronaut to go to space. Since then, another 19 astronauts have reached for the stars. The selection of the fourth generation of astronauts began in 2022 and is now in full swing. Experts revealed how tough the training is before astronauts can fly to space.

The human body is not designed for space life. Astronauts are faced with multiple challenges on a space mission. The changes in gravity can have an impact on their bodies. The sensation of confinement(封闭)living in a small spacecraft for months can damage their mental health. Emergencies during missions challenge their knowledge and ability to solve problems under huge pressure. So it’s no wonder that astronauts have to meet extremely high standards and go through a tough training program.

To make sure that Chinese astronauts complete their missions and return to Earth safely, “Eight types, including over 200 subjects of training, were set,” Huang Weifen, chief designer of the astronaut system for China’s manned space project, told CCTV News. Apart from physical fitness training, it also includes basic scientific theories, psychological health, and mock(模拟)missions.

Among the training subjects, the most tiring one is underwater training. This training is designed for astronauts to adapt to the microgravity environment in space. According to Huang, astronauts stay underwater in suits weighing over 100 kilograms for six hours at a time. Water resistance(阻力)and the heavy suit make every move exhausting. “Nie Haisheng, one of the astronauts, once reported a two-kilogram loss in weight after one underwater training exercise,” said Huang. Each astronaut receives training for at least three and a half years before having the chance to go to space.

1. How many generations of Chinese astronauts have been sent to space?
A.3B.4C.19D.20
2. Which of following is true according to paragraph 2?
A.Human body is perfect for space exploration.
B.The spacecraft has enough space for astronauts to operate.
C.Astronauts ought to complete missions under huge pressure.

3. Why did Huang mention Nie Haisheng’s two-kilogram weight loss?
A.To stress how challenging the training is.B.To describe Nie’s personal achievements.
C.To introduce the weight limit for astronauts.D.To explain the importance of proper training.
4. What does this passage mainly about?

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Oliver was a small and introvert (内向的) boy who kept to himself. He was quiet and preferred indoor activities. Sitting in the corner of the class, he was very much a loner.

At the beginning of the semester, Oliver had a new classmate, Alan, who had just returned to England. Alan was assigned a seat next to Oliver. To his surprise, within weeks, he became good friends with Alan even though they were poles apart in personality. Alan was popular, outspoken and artistic. “Alan is all that I want to be,” Oliver thought to himself. He began listening to the music Alan listened to and having similar haircut. He even quit his drama club and started playing the online games that Alan played. He seemed to have been out of his loneliness.

It was not long before Oliver was introduced to Alan’s “cool” friends. He told himself that he would try all means to be part of the group. He would follow them to the football games and join the art club after school so he could spend more time hanging out with them. Oliver followed them around laughing when they told jokes, agreeing when they had opinions—most enthusiastically at the ones he disagreed with. He did not dare to differ in opinions as he would not want them to think badly of him. This continued for several months. At last, Oliver felt relieved that he had finally fitted in.

One day, Oliver overheard Alan and his cool friends talking. “Oliver is such a loser,” one boy commented in a playful tone. “He just follows you around trying to be you. He copies you; he does not have a personality of his own!” another boy exclaimed. Alan laughed, to make matters worse, he added, “That fellow wears me out. I wish he would leave me alone. He thinks we are best friends. A thorough fool!”

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。青少年大量使用媒体,睡眠不足,久坐不动正被视为“隐形风险”。这些风险风险很可能导致青少年的心理健康问题。

3 . While teenagers who are at risk of depression with risky behaviors — drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and cutting classes often alert parents and teachers that serious problems are brewing, a new study finds that there’s another group of adolescents who are in nearly as much danger of experiencing the same mental symptoms.

These teens use tons of media, get insufficient sleep and have a sedentary (不爱活动的) lifestyle. Of course, that may sound like a description of every teenager on the planet. But the study warns that it is teenagers who engage in all three of these practices in the extreme that are truly in a dangerous position. Because their behaviors are not usually seen as a red flag, these young people have been called the “invisible risk”group by the study’s authors.

The study’s authors surveyed 15,395 students and analyzed nine risk behaviors, including excessive alcohol use, illegal drug use, heavy smoking and high media use. Their aim was to determine the relationship between these risk behaviors and mental health issues in teenagers. The group that scored high on all nine of the risk behaviors was most likely to show symptoms of depression; in all, nearly 15% of this group reported being depressed, compared with just 4% of the low-risk group. But the invisible group wasn’t far behind the high-risk set, with more than 13% of them exhibiting depression.

The findings caught Carli off guard. “We didn’t expect that,” he says. “The high-risk group and low-risk group are obvious, but this third group was not only unexpected. It was so distinct and so large — nearly one third of our sample — that it became a key finding of the study.”

Carli says that one of the most significant things about his study is that it provides new early warning signs for parents, teachers and mental health-care providers. And early identification, support and treatment for mental health issues, he says, are the best ways to keep them from turning into full-blown disorders.

1. Which teenager probably belongs to the “invisible risk” group?
A.A teenager who skips school.
B.A teenager who drinks frequently.
C.A teenager who exercises regularly.
D.A teenager who suffers from lack of sleep.
2. What can we know about the new study?
A.It was intended to dig into the reasons for depression.
B.Its findings were under expectation of the research team.
C.It was conducted by analyzing and comparing the previous data.
D.It revealed an alarming rate of the invisible group suffering depression.
3. What is Carli’s attitude toward the findings?
A.Unclear.B.Concerned.C.Doubtful.D.Indifferent.
4. What is the author’s intention of writing this passage?
A.To caution teens against developing unhealthy habit.
B.To share a novel psychological experiment with teens.
C.To introduce a new treatment for teens’ mental disorder.
D.To warn about the unobserved signs for teens’ mental problems.

7 . 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

I attended a birthday party in 1991. My teacher was then 59 years old.     1     her fellow teacher said that we     2     (celebrate) her 39th birthday! We were all     3     (surprise) and puzzled.

After the party I was told by the fellow teacher that American women have a special saying about     4     (birth). If a woman is over 40, or even if she is 80, her birthday is always     5     39th. If she is in her thirties, her birthday will be the 29th. And in her twenties, it’s the 19th. They usually have     6     (they) “real” birthday when they are     7     20. This shows that American women,     8     (special) elderly women, are very sensitive about their ages. But my teacher always says, “We want to be     9     (young).” So about the age of Western women, my advice is     10     if you don’t know it, don’t ask about it; if you really know it, don’t mention it.
