4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Out of a 13-year-old girl’s summer boredom, I put up a tent in our yard and intended to sleep in it. It was midnight and my dad had been asleep upstairs. A girl knocked on the front door, asking if she could use our phone to call her parents.

I watched her struggle to dial the numbers. After she dialed the wrong numbers several times, I offered to do that for her. But after I dialed several times, there still no people answered the phone. Looking at the girl, I said, “Want to sleep in my tent?” She hesitated for a while and agreed.

I accompanied her into the darkness of the yard, entered the tent, and turned my lantern on. She told me how she got here. She and her parents had a nice dinner. After dinner, she expressed she wanted a beautiful dress in a special style, but it was too expressive for her parents. They argued fiercely(激烈地)and she left in anger. She wandered alone aimlessly(漫无目的地)until she found herself on an unfamiliar road. Her cellphone was in her parent’s bag and she seemed to have got lost. She wiped her eyes with my pillow, looked at me sadly, and then said, “Why didn’t my parents buy that dress for me?”

I knew just nodding obviously couldn’t solve the problem. “Do you think your parents love you?” I asked. Hearing my questions, she nodded and said regretfully, “My parents always meet my request as far as possible. This is my fault to ask them to buy that dress which they can’t afford. ” At the time, my phone rang. It turned out her parents’ call. Her parents sounded very worried and said they would come very soon. Then, my dad walked down the stairs.

7 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I was walking along the road to school one day and I met my friend Raine. He suggested that we skip school and go to the movies. I refused as my dad was very fierce and strict. After much persuasion, I gave in. There was a Will Smith movie on and I was a fan.

So we set off to the movies together, bought our tickets, popcorn and drinks and settled down comfortably. As we were early, the lights were still on. We watched people come in groups, families and there were couples too. Some of them looked like school students playing truant(逃学)like us. As I turned around, I caught a glimpse of my uncle Andy and Aunt Jane walking in. They were kind and cared about me very much. I sank into my seat quickly to avoid being spotted. I signaled to Raine that there was someone I didn’t want to see and Raine made it more obvious by turning around and asking “Who? And where?” loudly. It made me sit even lower in my seat.

To make things worse, they came and sat in the row behind us and were saying to each other how I would have loved to come to this movie as I adored Will Smith. They were even commenting about the students playing truant. Soon the movie began and I was glad when the lights were turned off but I didn’t enjoy the movie at all for fear of being spotted. So, I sat there like an astronaut, peering over the front seat.

Every now and then I would secretly take a quick look at my aunt and uncle. I was sure they were also looking at me. Feeling nervous and anxious, I kept wondering how I could leave the cinema without being noticed.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。本文介绍了过上幸福生活的几个建议。

9 . Have you ever felt like others don’t understand your pain when they seem to be living a happy life? You’re not alone in feeling this way, but the truth is that happiness takes work.    1

Live in the present moment

Your past is important to learn from.    2     At the end of the day, though, the only thing that exists outside of your head is the present. In order to ground yourself in the now, you can practise noticing what’s around you, how you’re feeling, why you’re feeling that way, etc.

Be kind to others

3     While you may not be at a place to help them financially (经济上), offering a smile or a kind word can help them feel better about where they’re in life. When others see you show kindness, they’ll also be more likely to do so.

Keep your mind open

Having an open mind is important for your growth. You may be right about something, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways to look at it.    4     You are sure to learn something as long as you stay open to difficult conversations.

    5

You’ll hear people say “I had that idea” every time you see someone create something great. Everyone had the idea for Facebook first. The reason Mark Zuckerberg got rich off it is that he went out and did it, while everyone else was talking about it. Ideas are useless if you don’t act on them. Less thinking, more doing.

A.Decide what’s important to you.
B.Here are several ways you can try.
C.Take action for what matters to you.
D.Your future is important to work towards.
E.Every day you see someone who needs help.
F.Listening to ideas you don’t agree with keeps your mind open.
G.So find something new and set goals beyond what you believe possible.

10 . Ask yourself, “Why do you work so hard? What motivates you to do so?” Most of you may say a single word to answer both the questions: Family.

All of us inherit our physical features from our parents. However, when you start interacting with the outside world, you realize that they are not enough to ensure your success, not even your survival. It is the values passed on to you by your family such as patience, care, understanding and commitment that make your survival and growth possible.

You may or may not be aware, but your family was the first school you entered. “Survival of the fittest” is the golden rule in this world. In other words, “Let the unfit perish” is the motto. When you stepped into this world, you were unfit to survive on your own. From the first day you came into the world, you started learning about love, care and family relationships at home. For example, by observing your family members, you learned how family relationships work. As time went on, you matured and started taking note of other people outside your family and how your family members interacted with them. You also noticed how your family dealt with the ups and downs of life.

What you learned from your family becomes your value system and forms your perceptions and basis of actions. A person is known by his actions. It is your family that gave you an identity. Whenever you move from one place to another, you carry your family history with you. Have you ever noticed that your opinions always confirmed to the values you acquired from your family?

Every person’s relation to his family is similar to the earth’s relation to its environment, which acts as a protective layer. For a person, the importance of family is beyond calculation. The saying goes that you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family. Spend your life showing those you love that they will always be family no matter what happens.

1. Your family can help you survive by________.
A.providing more love for you
B.shaping your personality
C.introducing you to the outside world
D.improving your school education
2. According to the passage, a person represents________.
A.the unity of his family
B.his family benefits
C.the behavior pattern of his family
D.his family relationships with others
3. Like the environment to the earth, a family________.
A.is an interactive system
B.encourages its members to work hard
C.is full of challenges
D.provides security for its members
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A.The development of a person.
B.The importance of family.
C.How to survive the hardship?
D.What’s a family?
