Yang Xiaojuan and her husband (丈夫) Guo Qingshun run a small baozi shop in Haiyan County, Zhejiang.     1     (recent) they became famous because of their kindness.

At about 3 a.m. on October 29th,     2     they were busy making baozi, they heard a loud cry near their shop. Then Yang noticed a little girl     3     (run) alone on the street. She realized that the girl might get     4     (lose). So she carried the girl into the shop right away and helped her put on     5     thick (厚的) coat. At the same time, Guo     6     (report) it to the police.

After the police knew the     7     (true), they brought the girl to the police station. Very soon, the parents picked up their daughter at the police station.     8     their way back home, the parents came to the baozi shop to thank Yang and Guo.

The shop     9     (own) were awarded (奖励) 5,000 yuan for helping the girl. With the prize money, they decided to offer hot and free baozi for the sanitation workers (环卫工人). They hoped that a warm breakfast could help     10     (they) drive the cold away. They said, “We will continue to give a helping hand whenever someone is in need.”

4 . At 3:00 a. m, most people are still sleeping. But Jiang Airong and some volunteers are busy making free breakfast in her porridge restaurant.

Jiang Airong opened the first free porridge restaurant in Zhengzhou in 2013. After seeing the sanitation workers (环卫工人) working hard on cold mornings but only having simple breakfasts, Jiang wanted to help them. She heard that in some places there were free porridge restaurants for people in need. She thought it was a good way to help and then she started one in Zhengzhou with some volunteers.

At first, people were doubtful (怀疑的) about the restaurant, but Jiang and the volunteers still worked hard to help. As time goes on, more and more people know about the free porridge restaurant and come here every morning.

After starting the free porridge restaurant, Jiang gets up at around 2:40 a. m. every day. Then she starts making breakfast with the volunteers. At 5:50 a. m., they start to give out free breakfast to people. Although it is hard work, they feel happy to help others. Starting from Jiang’s restaurant, more and more free porridge restaurants are appearing in Zhengzhou for people in need.

5 . David was a truck driver. Recently he was thought to be a great man.

Last Monday, he was driving along the road with his son and his friend. Suddenly he saw a car hit another truck (卡车) and catch fire. The accident was just in front of his truck. Without thinking, he stopped his truck, found a fire extinguisher (灭火器) and ran towards the broken car. But other car drivers still sat in their cars. David began to fight the fire. His action encouraged his friend. He also came and gave David a hand. Later, David’s son and four other men came to help. Another five men pulled the car driver and her granddaughter, a three-year-old girl, out of the car successfully. They were all safe except that the driver’s leg was hurt.

When people talked about David’s brave action, David said, “I didn’t think too much then. I just did what other people would do in that situation. When I first got out of the truck, I wished they wouldn’t be dead. When I saw they were alive, it was really great!”

Zheng Lin is a middle school student in Hebei. Earlier this month, Zheng Lin and his friends stood on the street with a box to ask people for donations (捐款). Later they gave the money to the poor students in their school.

Chinese teenagers raise money with a group. Usually, they ask for donations on the street or in the park. And they sell things like their old books and clothes. They really do a great job. The money usually helps the children in poor areas with new clothes, pens and pencils. It also helps some sick children with their medicine.

Teenagers in the US make donations, too. But they raise money in a different way—by (通过) doing something for others. For example, they sell home-made food or have music concerts in their neighborhood to raise money.

Chinese students like to wait for people to donate, or sell their things to raise money. They can help people in need and also show their love to the world. The US kids get donations and give people something useful in return (作为回报). In this way, they can show their talents and practice getting on with others. More importantly, they have to work hard to get a donation.

9 . Jiang Danni is a 24-year-old volunteer from East China. She has volunteered in countries in Africa. And her videos about her experience have caught many people’s ________.

After graduating from university in 2020, Danni chose to work in Africa for a year and then took a trip to seven countries. A primary school in Africa stopped her. She had a (n) ________ time getting to know the polite and energetic children at the school. She taught children in Grades One to Four. Danni set up different kinds of ________ for her students, including Chinese language learning and crafts (手工艺). Danni also ________ to care for the students. While staying at the school in Africa, she usually went to a town that was far away from school to buy delicious food for the students.
