文章大意:本文介绍了孔明灯、剪纸、中国泥塑艺术等传统艺术形式。

1 . Each different part of China has its own special forms of traditional art. These usually try to show the things that are important in life, such as love, beauty and family. The most common things, from paper to clay to bamboo, are turned into objects of beauty.

According to Chinese history, sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming. He sent them out to ask for help when in trouble. Today, sky lanterns are used at festivals and other celebrations. They are made of bamboo and covered with paper. When the lanterns are lit, they slowly rise into the air like small hot-air balloons for all to see. They are seen as bright symbols of happiness and good wishes.

Paper cutting has been around for over 1,500 years. Paper cutting sounds very easy but it can be difficult to do. The paper, usually red, is folded before it is cut with scissors. The most common pictures are flowers, animals, and things about Chinese history. During the Spring Festival, they are put on windows, doors and walls as symbols of wishes for good luck and a happy new year.

Chinese clay (黏土) art is famous because the clay pieces are so small but they look very real. The pieces are usually cute children or lively characters from a Chinese fairy tale or historical story. The pieces are carefully shaped by hand from a very special kind of clay and then allowed to air-dry. After drying, they are fired at a very high heat. They are then polished before being painted well. It takes several weeks to complete everything. These small pieces of clay art show the love that all Chinese people have for life and beauty.

3 . Li Meixi, 12, feels worried about her looks—not her face, but her clothes. When she sees fashionable people on the street, she avoids running into them. “I am afraid that they think I am out of style. Ashamed of my common ordinary clothes, I feel like I don’t even deserve (值得) to walk on the same street with them,” said Li, from Chengdu, Sichuan.

What Li is experiencing is fashion worries. It bothers many people today. They are worried about their clothes, afraid of being seen out of style. A vlogger shared a video about her fashion anxiety on Sina Weibo and it quickly became a hot topic.

A big reason for fashion worries is fashion bullying (霸凌), experts said. As fashion magazines, advertisements and idols (偶像) show off the “latest and greatest” trends (潮流), there’s a lot of pressure on people, especially teenagers, to follow them, no matter how expensive it might be. “The need to belong in groups is very important to young learners and exclusion (偶像) is something they see as the end of the world,” said Andy Cranham, a teacher at City of Bristol College, UK.

Another reason some people might have fashion worries is that they don’t have a sense of self-identity (自我认同), said The Paper. It looks like we feel worried about our clothes, but actually we are not confident enough. So we care about how fashionable people look at us. We easily doubt or even blame ourselves. The reality is that those people usually don’t notice us at all.

Fashion trends come and go, always changing. Instead of rushing to follow a trend, the key is to find your own style. If you’re able to wear something with confidence, you will be the one starting a trend. More importantly, the clothes are just a part of your image. It can’t tell the true you. What also matters is your personality and abilities.

6 . When you go to Beijing, the local people will tell you that the real culture of Beijing lies in (在于) the culture of hutong and siheyuan (courtyards). How true it is!

A hutong is a kind of narrow alleyway (小巷) found in cities in the north of China, especially in Beijing. The hutongs in Beijing are formed by lines of siheyuan. This type of house is built to form squares in order to create a traditional courtyard. In the mid-20th century, several hutongs in Beijing had disappeared for the modern development. However, because of the efforts designed to protect the Chinese architectural (建筑的) culture, many hutongs have been preserved.

In hutongs, every house is connected to the other, making it easy for local people to keep in touch with their neighbours. Therefore, when people enter any of the hutongs, they can feel the deep and warm relationships among people, which is rarely found in this modern world.

Tourists can experience the life of the locals when they visit these hutongs. The public bathrooms and toilets can be found. Shops sell all kinds of goods that satisfy the local people’s daily needs. It is just like a community. People living in hutongs often talk with each other, as it is the main way for people to strengthen their relationship. 文章大意:本文主要介绍了东京为了在地震中使人们保持安全而建造的一些特别公园的事情,并且告诉人们如何在地震期间保持安全。
7 . 阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。

Earthquakes happen very often in Tokyo, but Tokyo is not an unlucky city. Many special parks have been built in Tokyo to keep people safe during earthquakes. These parks look nothing different from the other parks, but when earthquakes happen, they become life saving places.

Many useful things in those special parks can meet people’s basic needs. For example, it is usually hard for people to get water after earthquakes. In the special parks, people can get drinking water from the water pump (泵). If people need to use toilets, they can choose special toilets that can be used without water. Also, the helicopter (直升机) can land on squares or baseball fields and bring food or other things to people. What’s more, if people need to cook in the parks, some special benches (长凳) can become cooking things.

However, those useful things are not enough for people to face earthquakes. The most important part lies in training people. The parks, together with fire stations and the police, will train with local people at the usual time. This will let people think and move faster during real earthquakes and let them protect themselves better.

So, what can we do to protect ourselves from getting hurt in earthquakes? First, we need to check our furniture and make sure they won’t fall down easily. Second, when an earthquake happens, we need to stay under tables or desks and protect our head. Third, we can keep our door open and wear comfortable shoes during small earthquakes in order to get out safely.

1. Why are there many special parks in Tokyo?

4. When will the local be trained to protect themselves in earthquakes?

文章大意:本文主要介绍了一群有音乐天赋的大象,这些大象来自泰国大象保护中心。大象很聪明并有很好的听力,不仅能演奏乐器,还能自己创作歌曲。

8 . In the town of Lampang in northern Thailand, there is an unusual group of musicians. They play many different kinds of music — from traditional Thai songs to music by Beethoven. Both children and adults love this group. What makes them so popular? Is it their music? Their looks? Yes, it’s both of these things, but it’s also something else: they’re elephants.

These musical elephants are from the Thai Elephant Conservation Center (TECC) in Lampang. The TECC protects elephants. It teaches people to understand and care for these huge, but gentle animals. And, like many zoos around the world, the TECC encourages elephants to paint.

Richard Lair works with the TECC. He knew that elephants hear better than they see. So he had an idea: if elephants are intelligent and they have good hearing, maybe they can play music. To test his idea, Lair and a friend started the Thai Elephant Orchestra. During a performance, the elephants play a variety of instruments, including the drums and the xylophone. The animals also use their voices and trunks to make sounds.

But can elephants really make music properly? Yes, says Lair. They’re very creative. Humans may encourage the animals to play instruments, but the elephants make their own song; they don’t just copy their trainers or other people. There are new CDs of the group’s music, which make money for the TECC. And the music these artists create is pretty amazing.

1. What can be the best title for the passage?

文章大意:本文主要介绍了英国和美国科学家研制出的一种新的酵素,可以帮助解决塑料污染的问题。

9 . Scientists in Britain and the United States have made a new kind of enzyme(酵素) that eats plastics (塑料). With its help, plastics can be turned into smaller parts and go away quickly. Scientists believe that, in the future, it could solve the problem of plastic pollution.

The enzyme is able to break down PET, a form of plastic. PET was first made in the 1940s and is now widely used to make plastic bottles. It can remain in the environment for many years and pollute large areas of land and water. So it has always been a headache to deal with the waste from PET and other plastics.

The researchers made the discovery while examining the structure(结构) of a natural enzyme in Japan. They found that the natural enzyme was helping to break down PET plastics. So, they decided to make small changes to the enzyme by adding some amino acids(氨基酸). It made the natural enzyme’s plastic-eating abilities work faster and better.

John McGeehan, one of the lead researchers, said, “We’ve made an improved enzyme. It’s better than the natural one. And we are trying to make more improvements to it.” He went on, “The enzyme is not harmful to humans or animals, and it is friendly to the environment. So we are considering putting it into wider use.”

The team is now trying to make the enzyme break down PET in large quantities(大量的). “We’ll see that the plastic pollution may be stopped with this technology. However, there is still a long way to go,” John McGeehan added.

1. According to the scientists, the enzyme may solve the problem of ________ pollution.
A.airB.waterC.lightD.plastic
2. Researchers discovered that a natural enzyme helped eat plastics ________.
A.in BritainB.in AmericaC.in JapanD.in China
3. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The scientists are still trying to improve the enzyme.
B.The enzyme will pollute large areas of land and water.
C.The natural enzyme works better than the improved one.
D.The natural enzyme is harmful to humans and animals.

10 . Chinese Astronaut Bridges Gender (性别) Gap (差距)

Wang Yaping, a 41-year-old female (女性) astronaut, became the first Chinese woman to enter China’s space station. China’s landmark six-month journey in space has increased a lot of curiosity (好奇) about the differences between male and female astronauts.

“Astronauts need to meet high physical and emotional (情感的) standards, so female astronauts will not be exception(特例) from this expectation,” said Pang Zhihao, a spaceflight researcher in Bejing.

“Different from many people’s opinion that it is inconvenient for women to take part in long-term spaceflights, female astronauts actually have many advantages over their male partners in space missions (任务)” Pang said.

Researches on missions with female members in the past have found many physiological indices (生理指数) in women are better than those in males. They are more likely to stay away from iron poisoning, irregular heartbeat and other illnesses.

“Women are usually more careful and normally better at communicating. These advantages are useful in space flights. The presence (存在) of a female astronaut brings more possibilities for the mission,” Pang said, saying he looks forward to Wang’s success.

“This is not only an honor, but also a chance for us to research the various advantages female astronauts have when walking into the space,” Pang said. “Their generally smaller size is an advantage, as they’ll be able to control their weight better and, as a result, perform a wider variety of tasks.”

In addition, astronauts often do indoor experiments, and Wang Yaping is not different there. “She plans to study aerospace medicine and space life to prepare future female astronauts for long-term stays in space,” Pang said, “As part of her mission, she is glad to give her second space-based speech during her stay, encouraging young people to go for their space dreams.”

In order to provide a comfortable living environment for her journey, Tianzhou 3, a spacecraft carrying supplies to the China space station, has sent some necessary supplies that keep her clean and healthy. A special spacesuit was also prepared for Wang’s outdoor activities, lighter than the male’s.

1. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word “various”?
A.the same.B.different kinds of.C.experimental.D.unknown.
2. What can we know about female astronauts from Para. 2-6?
A.They are worse at communicating than males.
B.They can do fewer dangerous tasks than males.
C.They have a more proper size than males generally.
D.They are more likely to have an illness than males.
3. What does Wang Yaping need to do like male astronauts?
A.She gives the second space-based speech.
B.She studies Chinese medicine and space life.
C.She provides a comfortable living environment.
D.She meets high physical and emotional standards.
4. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
