Sports Day was getting close in the school. All the children were very excited and were practicing for the big race. You are not practicing at all,” said John’s mother.

“Mom, you know how fast I am! Why should I waste my time running? Only I will win; no one else will win!”said John. “John, you may be right but talent (天赋) without hard work is not good at all. 文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,介绍了体育运动对孩子的好处。

4 . Trainers and parents saw children play sports at a young age and then saw them become professional. Many correlated the training to success. Competitive sports are good for young children because they teach children life skills, provide health benefits, and offer special opportunities.

To begin with, sports teach children life skills. A formal athlete stated, “I played soccer in high school and college and found team sports weren’t just about winning, but also about developing a solid ethic(行为准则), and learning why that’s important.” In short, playing highly competitive sports teaches kids many life skills like teamwork. People will have to use teamwork for the rest of their life, and sports can help them improve that skill. Taking part in sports can help develop a positive attitude towards life, which will help in the long run.

Sports are also good for kids because they provide health benefits. It is healthier for a kid to play a sport competitively than to waste time playing video games all day. Furthermore, a research group of University of California said, “96 percent of the participants(参与者) said they enjoy their sports. They’re all loving life.” That is to say, kids playing highly competitive sports tend to enjoy life instead of doing something else like watching TV.

On the other hand, some people might argue that competitive sports are bad for young children because they are so time-consuming. However, the time spent is not “robbing” kids of their childhood, but offers unique opportunities. Athletes can get success to live their dream life by playing sports. Even though sports are time-consuming, they offer distinctive opportunities.

In conclusion, competitive sports are good for children because they can provide wholesome benefits, create new experiences, and build skills that will last a lifetime.

1. Why is the formal athlete mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To show a reasonB.To give an example.
C.To list a background.D.To draw out a new point.
2. What is the most participants’ attitude to sports?
A.Supportive.B.Uncertain.C.Uncaring.D.Doubtful.
3. What does the underlined word “distinctive” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.CommonB.UnreasonableC.Unique.D.Frequent.
4. What does the text mainly talk about?
A.The ways to play sports.
B.The reasons for playing sports.
C.The problems of kids’ playing sports.
D.The benefits of kids’ playing sports.

文章大意:这是一篇议论文。研究发现每三个儿童中就有一个被认为肥胖,现在的没有达到每天锻炼一小时的最低要求。本文对父母给了一些关于这个问题的建议。

7 . One out of three kids in our country are now considered obese (过度肥胖的) . Life is different now from when we grew up. The days of allowing our children to ride their bikes and play outside are nearly gone. With the average kid spending seven hours a day on all screen media combined (TV, videos, DVDs, computer time outside of schoolwork, and video games) , our children are not getting the minimum requirement of one hour of exercise per day that they need.

This needs to be changed, but where do we start?

We lead by example.

If you don’t work out, your children most likely won’t either. Children will mimic what you do more than they’ll ever listen to what you say. How many times have you thought, “My child is just like me?”

Many of us wait to have the perfect time to exercise, but we need to deliberately make the time. If necessary, exercising for 10 minutes three times a day is a great way to get started. After all, some activity is always better than none.

A great way to ensure that your whole family benefits from fitness activities is to do activities that your whole family can do together. You can take walks after dinner, play in the backyard, put on a Zumba video and dance with your kids, sign your children and yourself up for classes at the local gym, and hike, bike, and swim on the weekends.

I know you’re busy. But we all get the same 24 hours in a day, and we need to make them count. The excuse of “I don’t have enough time” is a very real one, but with awareness (意识) of our time management and planning, we can all do better. Organize your life, live by a schedule, and model the behavior you want to see in your children.

1. What contributes to childhood obesity in the author’s opinion?
A.Children’s hobbies.B.Parents’ habits.
C.The living environment.D.The school requirements.
2. What does the underlined word “mimic” probably mean?
A.CopyB.Wonder.C.Approve.D.Suspect.
3. According to the text, we should make the time to exercise by ________.
A.limiting screen timeB.scheduling it in advance
C.consulting our gym coachD.talking with our family members
4. Why does the author advise parents to develop the habit of exercising?
A.To fight against ageing.B.To control their weight.
C.To improve their fitness.D.To set an example to their kids.

Now his TikTok account has rocketed to 55 million fans and 53 million likes, inspiring people’s interest in indoor exercise.

According to Pu Zhengning, a professor of Southeast University in Nanjing, the COVID-19 has limited access to gyms and fitness centers, so simple aerobic (有氧的) exercises that do not need equipment are perfect for people to perform at home. Since the COVID-19 broke out, the increasing downloads of fitness apps indicates the growing popularity of online fitness. The number of fitness videos on the platform in 2021 increased by 134 percent, while followers of fitness trainers were up by 208 percent.
