I like running. Ever since I am in third grade, I have been trained as a long-distance runner. Last year I decided run in a ten-kilometer race, for which I practiced hard. At the day of the race, I ran fast than I ever had in the past. When I approached to the last kilometer, I was one of the first runner to finish. I picked up the pace and quick reached second place. With all my strength, I went dashing to the finish line, and I wasn’t fast enough. As the result, I got a silver medal, that I thought was the same as the one that the guy who came in first place had.

Like many boys, my favorite sport is playing basketball. To be honest, I felt clumsily when I first learned to play it because I wasn’t as energetic as another, and I moved slowly. And I was determined not to left behind. I spent my spare time to practicing it. Gradually, I made progresses. I can’t forget how exciting I was when I scored points for the first time. And I can still remember the joy of victory after win a match. That’s why I fell in love with basketball. Since then, it had become part of my life. It strengthens my body and mind. It also helps me become more confident and strong-willed.
6 . When I was 6, my elder brother brought me to the local BMX(自行车越野) track to ride in a kid’s race for the first time. The hill out of the starting gate looked so scary and step that I backed off. My parents took me back for another try the next week. I fell almost immediately but still managed to win the second place. I’ve loved racing ever since.
I turned pro at 15, which isn’t possible now: You have to be 17 to compete professionally around the time I went pro, BMX became an Olympic sport and I decided to pursue it after high school. I’m the youngest woman with a professional title in the United States.
BMX isn’t judged on tricks or how you handle barriers, but it’s an extreme sport. It’s like horse racing mixed with riding a roller coaster. It starts with a huge burst of speed—I go 40 mph by the time. I’m two and a half seconds out of the gate. Then I try to come out in front of seven competitors at the end of the track, which includes 40-foot jumps. I keep chasing the high that comes from prestart nervousness, big jumps, and that feeling of crossing the finish line first.
Strength and balance are key in competition, so I work out at least five days a week to prepare. I do tons of resistance and agility(灵活) training, both on and off the bike. I also do mental drills with a sports psychologist to make sure I’m focused and confident going into competition. If I make a mistake on the course, I have to move on. Everyone is out to beat me; I need to concentrate on winning so my competitors can’t capitalize on an error and pass me!
I was so proud to win a silver medal at the Olympics in Rio, but I felt I was capable of gold, so that will push me to do better. I’m continually working to reach my potential in the sport. Until I feel completely satisfied, I’ll keep coming back.

How can you be a good sports audience? First, read your ticket carefully because there are rules writing on the back of it. Second, reach at your seat half an hour before the start of the event but try not to leave when a game is in progress. When you leave, remember to take out your soft drink bottles and other rubbishes. Third, after a excellent performance, applaud warm. If someone fails, your applause will encourage him/her. Finally, enjoying the game require silence. The noise you make may disturb the athletes, that may cause them not concentrate on the game.
9 . By the 1970s, the Olympic Marathon had come a long way from the dusty roads of Athens. Yet women were still not allowed to compete and the struggle to establish a women’s Olympic Marathon was itself something of a long-distance race.
Women had been excluded from long-distance running until 1928, when the typical long race was the 800 meters. The women competitors hadn’t properly prepared for the race and several fell down and became temporarily unconscious due to extreme tiredness. This led Olympic organizers in 1928 to consider the marathon too violent for women.
This is not to say there was no tradition of women’s long-distance running. Women had been prohibited from participating in the ancient Olympics by the cruel law. But women in ancient Greece held their own festival to honor the goddess Hera every five years. Only one athletic event was held — a running race.
When the Olympics were revived in 1896, women were again excluded. However, in 1967, women’s ability in running attracted great attention. Number 261 in the Boston Marathon was given to K V. Switzer. Not until two miles into the race did officials realize that Switzer was a woman. Race officials tried to catch Switzer and remove her from the race but her teammates fended them off with body blocks. And Switzer wasn’t scared by officials’ aggressive actions. She kept running. Although the running was demanding, Switzer didn’t give up and eventually finished the race. Switzers story made the quest for equality in long-distance running for women a political issue. Slowly, the rules did begin to change.
The first women’s marathon officially agreed by the IAAF was the Tokyo International, held in 1979. IAAF president Adriaan Paulen watched the race. He was so impressed by the level of the competition that he announced he would fully support the effort to establish a women’s marathon in the Olympics. Soon the IAAF recommended to the IOC that a women’s marathon be included in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. And the advice was adopted.
