2 . Everyone dreams of changing the world. But can teenagers really make a difference? And how can they do it?
Michael Norton's book 365 Ways to Change the World is a good starting point. The book gives an idea or a task for every day of the year. The tasks are from volunteering at a hospital to planting a tree.
The book says that even one small act can help someone in need. It may even influence other teenagers to do something.
Nathan Anthony, a student at Enochs High School, agrees. “It's impossible to get anything in life without giving something to someone or working hard at school or work,” Anthony said.
Another student, Ariane Mota, has the same opinion. “Giving is our way of returning to those who help us.” she said. “Whether it is a helping hand or money, we should help others to improve their day of life.”
But how often do teenagers help a stranger or do something nice for someone? According to Anthony, not a lot. He and Mota both believe this needs to be changed.
So whether you're helping to find medicine for cancer or simply smiling at a stranger, do something every day to help change the world for better.

Make sure you remember what kind of animal it is, so the doctor can find the right way to treat him or her at once.
Fainting (昏厥) : Have him or her lie with feet lifted a little. Don’t move the body if you think there might be wounds from the fall. Make sure he or she can breathe and let in fresh air. Clean the person’s face with a cool cloth.
Nosebleeds:Have the person sit up with his or her head tilted (倾斜) forward a little. Do not have the person tilt his or her head back because this may cause heavy breathing or coughing. Pinch (捏) the lower part of the nose for at least 10 minutes.

4 . I used to hate my mother because she worked a lot and didn't spend much time with me. Then one Friday morning I took part in a three-day self-help program for teenagers. Whether you believe it or not, that weekend changed my life.
About 100 other teenagers were there. During the first two days I met a lot of great people. I was glad because I made so many friends there.
On Sunday, the leader did an interesting exercise called "Chocolate or Toys". He asked a girl which she liked better, chocolate or toys. She chose chocolate. Then he asked her to choose again between chocolate and chocolate. Of course, she didn't have a choice.
This exercise told us that sometimes we don't have a choice in life, and that sometimes we have to accept something, rather than complaining(抱怨).
A girl stood up and started talking about her mom who was a drug addict and how much she hated her mother.
"I want a new mom," she cried.
"Unfortunately, you can't have one," the leader replied. "You have to accept the mother that you have."
This hit me hard. I realized that, for better or worse, my mom was my mom. I couldn't choose another mom, but I could try to make the best of the situation.

5 . Sometimes your biggest weakness can become your biggest strength. Take, for example, the story of one 10-year-old boy who decided to study judo(柔道)though he had lost his left arm in a car accident.
The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, but he couldn't understand why, after three months of training, the master had taught him only one move.
“Teacher, "the boy finally said, "shouldn't I be learning more moves?”
"This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you'll ever need to know, "the teacher replied.
Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training.
Several months later, the teacher took the boy to his first competition.
Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent(对手)became impatient;the boy skillfully used his one move to win the match.
Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals.
This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy seemed worried. The referee(裁判)was going to call a time out when the teacher said to him, “No, let him continue.”
Soon after the match restarted, his opponent made a big mistake. At once, the boy won the competition. He was the champion.
On the way home, the boy and the teacher talked about the competition. Then the boy gathered the courage to ask what was really on his mind.
“Teacher, how did I win the final with only one move?”
“You won for two reasons,” the teacher answered.
“First, you've almost mastered (掌握) one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. Second, the only known defense(防御)for that move is to catch your left arm. Your opponent in the final tried and made that big mistake.”
The boy's biggest weakness had become his biggest strength.

6 . When snack food businessmen started selling fat-free products back in the 1980s, they really achieved success. People were interested in avoiding fat because it caused heart problems and made them fat. So the nonfat foods were a dieter’s dream! However, as it turned out, not many people became slim (苗条) and healthy from going on fat-free diets. In fact, not eating fat seemed to cause more health problems instead.
There are many naturally fat-free foods. Fruits and vegetables are on the top of the list. They’re usually low in calories (卡路里) and are filled with beneficial vitamins (有益的维生素).
The problem with fat-free packaged food is that fat makes food taste good. With all the fat taken away, it tastes like paper. So, the producers have to add into all kinds of things to keep the taste—like sugar, salt and artificial flavors (人造香精). Therefore, processed fat-free foods can actually end up with more calories than the full-fat foods. Fruit can be high in calories and sugar, too, but you’re getting other nutrients (营养物) along with it. Processed fat-free foods don’t have a lot of other things.
We know now that all fat is not evil. Fat helps control your nervous system and encourages bone health. Fat free salad can actually make you lose your ability to process all the good nutrients in it.
When you buy a fat-free product in the store, take a second to check the nutrient information on the package. If it contains sugar, salt or artificial favors—or has more calories than the full-fat version—put it back on the shelf. Most of the time, you’d be better eating the full-fat version, which tastes better and will satisfy you sooner—as long as you don’t eat the whole box!
1. What is the problem of fat-free packaged food mentioned in Paragraph 3?A.It is expensive. | B.It has too few types. |
C.It contains limited nutrients. | D.It tastes bad without other things added into it. |

C.How to deal with health problems. | D.How to check the nutrient information. |
7 . Last year, I worked as a young marketing person in a company. It was one of those busy days… management meetings, sale calls, planning my travels, booking hotels, and the list was endless. By the end of the day, I was not only tired but also was getting angry with myself and everyone around me, It was at this time that Paul invited me to his house for a “chill out”.
Although tired, I was all excited to chat up with Paul and share and learn through his rich experience in marketing. As I entered through the main door to his house, Paul started singing a song: I have a dream, to help me through in everything... and so on. I was in no mood to listen to his song. I wanted to hear about how he dealt with sale calls.
As I was ready to tell him about just that, I was totally surprised at what I saw next. Two young girls, aged between 7 and 10, walked over to Paul from their bedrooms and hugged him. They couldn’t walk steadily, and neither could they talk properly. Their faces were full of smiles when they heard the song.
Curious to know, I asked Paul who these girls were. I knew that Paul lived in that house but I had never seen’ these girls. Paul explained, “I also have dreamt a dream to make these girls happy. They are my daughters and they were born as special children. And he further added, “They don’t have a mother, My wife died when they were very young” And he was both Mother and Father to these beautiful daughters.
I was moved to tears. In the office, no one knew what Paul was going through in his personal life. He never looked for any pity from his friends. In fact, he always helped us and encouraged us to move forward in life.
