文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,介绍让我们保持健康的几条规则。

1 . Almost every day, we discuss the topic of health, especially for kids. But what is health? “Health” means eating well, getting enough exercise, and having a healthy weight. Let’s read the following rules. They can help you stay healthy.

Eat a variety of food, especially fruit and vegetables. We all know that eating fruit and vegetables can help us stay healthy, but many of us only eat our favorite food. Remember that we can only get the nutrition (营养) we need by eating different kinds of food, especially fruit and vegetables.

Drink water and milk most often. Everyone knows that water is important. Besides that, kids need plenty of calcium (钙) to grow strong bones, and milk is rich in it. Every day, you should drink at least three cups of milk, when you are 9 years old or older. You should also try to have less sugary drinks, like soda and coca. They include a lot of sugar. Sugar only includes calories (热量), not important nutrition.

Listen to your body. When you are eating, notice how your body feels. When your stomach feels comfortably full, stop eating. Eating too much makes you feel uncomfortable. If you do it too often, it can make you unhealthy and fat.

Limit screen time. What’s screen time? It’s the amount of (大量的) time you spend watching TV, movies and playing computer games. The more time you spend on these sitting-down activities, the less time you spend playing sports, like basketball, and doing other activities like riding and swimming. Try to spend no more than 2 hours a day on screen time.

根据短文内容,判断下列句子的正(A)或误(B),并在答题卡的相应位置将其涂黑。
1. In this passage, “health” includes eating well, doing more exercise and wearing comfortable clothes.
2. The underlined word “variety” means “各种” in Chinese.
3. We should spend the same time on both sitting-down activities and sports.
4. Screen time is the time that you only spend watching movies.
5. The writer wants to tell us some suggestions for staying healthy in this passage.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了植物传播种子繁殖的几种方式。
2 . 根据短文内容,判断1-5小题句子的正(A)或误(B),并在答题卡的相应位置将其涂黑。

Every living thing needs to reproduce(繁殖). Reproducing means creating more members of your group. In order for plants to reproduce, they have to spread their seeds(种子)to other areas. Plants have developed all kinds of ways to do this.

The simplest way is gravity(重力). Many seeds are inside of fruit. When fruit gets too heavy, it falls from a tree to the ground. Sometimes animals will pick up the fruit and drop it in another area. That helps move the seed even farther away. Apples spread this way.

Other plants use wind to spread their seeds. Dandelions(蒲公英)are a good example of this. Dandelion seeds are so light that when wind blows, it carries dandelion seeds to new places. Maple(枫树)seeds also use wind. Their seeds are connected with long, thin leaves that look like wings. When the seed falls from the tree, its “wings” help it fly farther from the tree.

Some animals help plants spread their seeds. The animals eat the seeds. While the seed is in the animal’s body, it stays whole. When the seed leaves the animal, it’s in a new place.

Ants also help spread seeds. Some seeds have a special smell that appeals to ants. The ants bring the seeds back to their home, which of course is underground. They only eat part of the seed. They leave the rest of the seed underground. After that, the seed can start growing.

1. When fruit gets heavy enough, it will fall from a tree to the ground because of gravity.
2. All plants can spread seeds by themselves.
3. Wind helps apple and dandelion seeds to fly farther to new places.
4. Some animals and ants eat seeds, and it is helpful for seeds to spread.
5. The passage is mainly about the relationship between animals and plants.

3 . 根据短文内容,判断句子的正(T)或误(F)。

Trees are useful to man in three important ways.

The first important way is that they provide man with wood and other products. Trees provide not only man with food, but also many animals with food. Without trees, many animals could not live on earth. It’s not easy for man to live on earth, either.

The second important way is that trees give us shade(阴凉). On a hot summer day, people are eager(渴望)to have a rest under the tree after they have a long walk. You can imagine how important the shade of a tree is to man and animals.

The third important way is that trees help to prevent droughts and floods(防止干旱和洪水). However, in many parts of the world, man hasn’t realized the third way. They cut trees down in large numbers. In the end, they find that they have lost the best friends they had.

1. Trees provide food for man and animals.
2. In hot summer, trees give us shade to cool.
3. Cutting down trees in large numbers can’t cause droughts and floods.
4. The underlined word they refers to man and animals.
5. Protecting forests is protecting ourselves.

4 . “Life is speeding up. Everyone is getting unwell.”

This may sound like something someone would say today. But in fact, an unknown person who lived in Rome in AD(公元) 53 wrote it.

We all love new inventions. They are exciting, amazing and can even change our lives. But have all these developments really improved the quality of our lives?

Picture this. You’re rushing to finish your homework on the computer. Your mobile phone rings, a QQ message from your friend appears on the screen, the noise from the television is getting louder and louder. Suddenly the computer goes blank and you lose all your work. Now you have to stay up all night to get it done. How happy do you feel?

Inventions have speeded up our lives so much that they often leave up feeling stressed and tired. Why do you think people who live far away from noisy cities, who have no telephones, no cars, not even any electricity often seem to be happier? Perhaps because they live simpler lives.

One family in the UK went “back in time” to see what life was like without all the inventions we have today. The grandparents, with their daughter, and grandsons Benjamin, 10 and Thomas, 7, spent nine weeks in a 1940s house. They had no washing machine, microwave(微波炉), computer or mobile phones.

The grandmother, Lyn, said, “The more things you have, the more difficult life becomes.” The boys said they fought less. Probably, they said, because there was less to fight over, such as their computer. Benjamin also noticed that his grandmother had changed from being a “trendy(赶时髦的), beer-drinking granny”, to one who cooked things.

5 .

How do we know the time? A clock, a watch or a mobile phone can help us. However, many years ago there were no clocks and knowing the time was not so easy.

About 5, 500 years ago, the Egyptians invented the sun clock. This was a tall stone building. Its shadow (影子) showed the movement of the sun. So people were able to know midday. The Egyptians made a sundial about 3,500 years ago. It was smaller than the sun clock and could let people know the time for half a day. On cloudy days or at night it was impossible to tell the time with a sun clock or a sundial. Water clocks were the first clocks not to use the sun. The idea is simple. Water flows (流动) from one bottle to another. When the water reaches a certain level, it shows the hours. The Egyptians used water clocks about 3,400 years ago. These clocks were popular in the Middle East and China. But they failed to make people know the exact time.
In the 13th century, the mechanical clock was invented. This was more exact, but it was expensive to make one. Over the next few centuries it was developed. For example, springs(发条) were added. This enabled people to get the correct time and allowed clocks to be smaller. In 1927, the first quartz clock was developed. Clocks became cheaper to build. It's also cheaper for ordinary people to own a clock. People began depending on them more and more to run businesses, markets and so on. More recently, in 1956, came the digital clock. And
nowadays satellites send our mobile phones the time to the exact second.

There has been a lot of progress in timekeeping. Clocks are always changing but some things never change.

Scientist Thomas Seeley has been studying the ability of honeybees to make good decisions. People can learn a lot from bees. If people could be as effective in offices and town meetings, Seeley says, we could avoid problems of making decisions.

Seeley and others are especially interested in how colonies(集聚地) of honeybees choose a new home. In late spring, when a hive gets too crowded, a colony usually divides. The queen bee (the leader of the hive), some male bees, and about half the workers fly away and meet again on a tree branch. Most of the bees wait there. A few other bees search for a new place to live in. The best home will be a hole in a tree, high off the ground. The new hive will have lots of room inside for young bees and honey. Once a colony chooses a place, it usually won’t move again. It has to make the right choice.

The bees have rules for making decisions. Small groups look for different places where they could live. They do dance to compete for the best idea. Then they narrow choices by gathering at the site they like best. “I’ve applied what I’ve learned from the bees to use at the worker meetings,” Seeley says. He tries not to make a decision before going to a meeting. Seeley asks his group to discuss their ideas, and then make a secret vote (投票). “In fact, almost any group that follows the bees rules will make itself smarter,” says James Surowiecki, author of The Wisdom of Crowds. “The bees are predicting which nest place will be the best, and humans can do the same thing.”

8 . Work is helpful to health. Scientists find that the hard-working people live longer than those who have no jobs. Studies show that the jobless are in poorer health than job-holders. Working women are healthier than housewives.

Why is work good for health? It is because work keeps people busy, away from loneliness(孤独). Researches show that people feel unhappy and worried when they have nothing to do. Instead, the happiest people are those who are busy. Many high achievers who love their careers feel they are the happiest when they are working hard. They work as a bridge between dream and reality, so they have energy every day. By work, people get to know each other. By taking part in all kinds of activities, they find friendship and warmth. This is helpful to health. The loss(丧失) of work means the loss of everything. It affects man’s spirit and it will cause more illnesses.

Besides, work gives one a sense of hope and a sense of achievement. Work makes one feel his value and status(形象) in society. When a writer finishes his writing or a doctor successfully operates on a patient or a teacher sees his students grow, they are very happy.
