文章大意:本文介绍了一个新的研究结果,从而告知人们吃冷的食物会感觉到牙疼的原因。

1 . Want to have a cold drink during summer? “Ouch!” Suddenly your teeth begin to ache. If eating ice-cream or drinking cold drinks makes your teeth ache, it could be something called TRPC5.

A new study came out on March 26, 2021. It answered a long-lasting question about teeth—why do cold food and drinks make our teeth ache? Actually, it means that our tooth enamel (牙釉质) might have been broken. The team discovered the TRPC5 15 years ago, but they didn’t know which part of the tooth could feel the change of temperature. Now they know it—it’s in the tooth enamel.

David Clapham from the team showed how teeth feel cold. When someone is eating ice-cream, for example, cells(细胞) with TRPC5 in teeth feel a change in temperature and then send information to the brain(大脑). The team also found that there is more TRPCS in bad teeth. So we should protect our teeth.

“Toothache has long been a problem,” Clapham said. “But it is important and it influences a lot of people. Toothache is nothing until you get it.” The team believed this study could help develop more useful medicine for toothache.

But bad eating habits go beyond fast food. We find many teenagers eat unhealthily. Some don’t have breakfast before they go to school. During the day, some don’t have a proper meal for lunch. 3 . Almost every day, we discuss the topic of health, especially for kids. But what is health? “Health” means eating well, getting enough exercise, and having a healthy weight. Let’s read the following rules. They can help you stay healthy.

Eat a variety of food, especially fruit and vegetables. We all know that eating fruit and vegetables can help us stay healthy, but many of us only eat our favorite food. Remember that we can only get the nutrition (营养) we need by eating different kinds of food, especially fruit and vegetables.

Drink water and milk most often. Everyone knows that water is important. Besides that, kids need plenty of calcium (钙) to grow strong bones, and milk is rich in it. Every day, you should drink at least three cups of milk, when you are 9 years old or older. You should also try to have less sugary drinks, like soda and coca. They include a lot of sugar. Sugar only includes calories (热量), not important nutrition.

Listen to your body. When you are eating, notice how your body feels. When your stomach feels comfortably full, stop eating. Eating too much makes you feel uncomfortable. If you do it too often, it can make you unhealthy and fat.

Limit screen time. What’s screen time? It’s the amount of (大量的) time you spend watching TV, movies and playing computer games. The more time you spend on these sitting-down activities, the less time you spend playing sports, like basketball, and doing other activities like riding and swimming. Try to spend no more than 2 hours a day on screen time.

10 . Experts in nutrition (营养) suggest that we should eat at least five different kinds of vegetables and fruit a day. They are very necessary for our health and help our bodies work well. They can help reduce (减少) the risk of getting ill. There are a lot of vegetables and fruit to choose from and they taste delicious. Best of all, you can grow your own!

It’s easy to buy our food from the local supermarket, so why do we go to the trouble of growing our own? Here are several good reasons.

Food that you grow yourself is always fresh. You can pick and eat it at once. When you have tried it, you will agree that vegetables and fruit that are eaten straight from the garden taste better than anything you can buy in a supermarket.

You may want to cut down on your “food miles”— the distance (距离) that a product has travelled before it reaches your kitchen. Many food packages are flown halfway across the earth. That’s not so good for you, or for the planet.

Homegrown food is likely to be healthier. Food producers often use fertilizers (化肥) and pesticides (农药) which can end up in your food. If you grow your own, things are different. You can control what goes on and into the food you eat. You might also choose to grow some traditional vegetables and fruit. These often have more of the vitamins, minerals (矿物质) and protein (蛋白质) that keep you healthy.

If you have a large garden, growing your own is easy. And you can grow your own even if you only have a small backyard or a balcony (阳台). Some food can grow well in pots, including lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes and carrots. You can recycle plastic bottle and cups to grow something. Just make sure there are holes for drainage (排水) and a small plate under them to catch drops of water.

Happy gardening!
