文章大意:本文主要是介绍嫦娥四号的又一次成功:搭载了一个有空气、水和土壤的小花园,里面种着种子的一个实验,以及实验的结果加以分析。

1 . From tiny seeds(种子), great things grow. A mini-garden carried on China’s Chang’e 4 moon lander(着陆器) became home to the first plant to grow on another world.

This is yet another success for Chang’e 4. On January 3, 2019, the probe(探测器) became the first lander to touch down on the far side of the moon. This is the unknown face of the moon that is always looking away from us, so we never see it from down here on the earth. Although it is often seen as the dark side of the moon, the far side actually gets as much sunshine as the near side. For example, when all we can see is a silver of a new moon the far side of the moon is in full sunlight.

Part of Chang’e 4’s mission(使命) is to see how a moon base could be built for humans, including exploring(探索) whether humans could grow crops and other plants there. Chang’e 4 carried a mini-garden with air, water and soil with seeds planted in it. When plants shoot on the earth, their stems(花茎) grow away from the gravity(the force that keeps your feet on the ground) , and so they always shoot upwards. The gravity of the moon is one sixth as strong as the earth’s, so Chang’e 4’s experiment was a test.: would the earth plants know which way was up on the moon? Four days after landing, a tiny cotton shoot showed that they do.

Night has now fallen on the far side of the moon; sunlight will not return until the start of February. As a result the cotton shoots died. Besides the darkness, the plants can’t stand the cold(it can drop to -170℃ on the moon at night). However, the experiment is a success, since it has proved that it is possible for plants to grow in space.

A.another success for Chang’e 4B.Chang’e 4 moon lander
C.tiny seeds in the soilD.the steps of an experiment

3. What can be inferred(推理) from the text?
A.Plants can be grown on the moon soon.B.It is perfect to do experiments on the moon.
C.The cotton shoots can last days on the moon.D.We can see a new moon at the start of February.
4. In which section of a magazine can you read the text?
A.Health and sport.B.history and culture.
C.Science and technology.D.Population and environment.

文章大意:本文介绍了范仲淹的词《渔家傲》,表达了军人的艰苦生活和对国家的热爱。
2 .

Tune(曲调): Pride of Fishermen

When autumn comes to the frontier, the scene风景)looks drear,

South-bound wild geese won’t stay

E’en for a day.

An uproar rises with horns blowing far and near.

Walled in by peaks, smoke rises straight

At sunset over isolate town with fastened gate.

I hold a cup of wine, yet home is far ,

The Northwest is not won and I’m obliged to stay.

At the flutes’ doleful sound

Over frost-covered ground,

None fall asleep,

The general’s hair turns white and soldiers weep.

Fan Zhongyan (989-1052) was famous for his work Notes on the Yueyang Tower. Its line “To be the first in the country to worry about the affairs of the state and the last to enjoy oneself is often used.Fan was not just a ci composer(词人), but also a famous statesman(政治家).

In the early Song Dynasty(960-1279), ci composers usually wrote about love and court(宫廷)life. But Fan Zhongyan’s ci included different topics. He focused on the life of soldiers. Pride of Fishermen is a good example.

Based on the writer’s own experience, this ci shows the hard life soldiers had and their homesickness(思乡). At the time, Fan led an army to fight against the Western Xia, which was to the northwest of Song. As he grew up in Suzhou, much farther south, he couldn’t get used to the weather. That’s why the first line of the piece uses the word “drear”. The following lines in the first part describe more about the hardship. For example, the isolated town was in great danger. The second part shows how much Fan and the soldiers missed home.

However, the ci doesn’t only focus on homesickness. Instead, it mixes both patriotic(爱国的)love with homesickness, creating a sad but real poetic atmosphere(氛围).

1. What is the Chinese for the tune of this ci?
A.摸鱼儿B.渔父C.渔家傲D.渔歌子
2. The suitable word which can be put in the seventh line ( )of this ci is ________.
A.nearB.straightC.wayD.away
3. Why did Fan Zhongyan use the word “drear” in the first line of the piece?
A.He hated to stay in the northwest of Song.
B.He couldn’t bear the hardship of being a soldier, so he didn’t like the scene.
C.The weather in the northwest was so different from his hometown, so he felt sad.
D.He thought things in the northwest were not good.
4. From this ci, we know Fan Zhongyan ________.
A.was good at fighting and guiding.B.owned deep feeling for soldiers and homeland
C.played an important role in Song’s historyD.was a great ci composer and a famous statesman
5. What’s the main idea of the piece?
A.The hard life and the patriotic love of soldiers.B.The anger to the enemy and the war.
C.Sadness and disappointment to the emperor.D.Deeply missing families and hometown.

3 . Boris, a foreign student at Communication University of China, often shares his experiences of Chinese culture on his vlog (视频博客).

In one video, for example, Boris shared how he had learned the Chinese word dongxi. He translated each part separately into “east west”. And he introduced one theory (说法) about how dongxi came to mean “things”. He told people that all marketplaces in ancient Chinese cities were set up along a single road that ran from east to west. So when you would say qu mai dongxi. you’d be saying, “I’m going to buy things.”

Some other videos show his reading Chinese poems and performing kung fu in Chinese traditional costume, which are quite welcome among his 40, 000 followers.

“Many of my followers are learning Chinese,” Boris said. “But sadly, they know little about Chinese culture and the country.”

Like many foreigners, Boris once believed that all Chinese could perform kung fu, flying onto roofs and walking over walls. He thought the country was not that developed. But after he got a scholarship (奖学金) to study in China in 2019, his view changed. “China has entered a new period, but many people’s impressions of China are still stuck in the1970s,” Boris said. “That’s why I started to shoot vlogs to share Chinese culture in 2019.”

Until now, Boris has posted more than 40 Chinese culture vlogs online. But making these vlogs is not easy. Take reading the poem Second Farewell to Cambridge by Xu Zhimo as an example.

“I can understand and read every word in the poem,” Boris said. “But to touch readers, I need to use proper feelings while reading.” So he needed to look for much background information and make his feelings suit each part of the poem.

Though shooting these vlogs takes lots of time, the young man feels proud that his vlogs have inspired many people. Boris said that he wanted to continue bridging the differences between two cultures. “This goal may not be achieved easily, but I will spare no efforts to do my part.”

1. Through the vlogs, Boris mainly wants to ________.

5 . On my first round-the-world trip in 2006, I planned everything out in advance. I knew where I was going, staying, for how long, and how I would get there. And then half-way through I ditched the plan and went with the flow(流动). Over the years, how I plan my travel has changed. Now, I'm a last-minute planner and seldom travel with any plan.

Travelling without a plan gives you great flexibility (灵活性). Since nothing is booked far in advance, you can turn to something different when you change your mind or something better comes along. I changed my plans to meet a friend on an island in Thailand and stayed for a month. I wouldn’t have had that experience if I had kept to my planned schedule.

However, most new travelers are the opposite — they over plan their trips. Their whole journey is scheduled. Two days here, three days there. I understand why people do that. When time is short, you want to see as much as possible. You don’t want to waste a single second.

But in travel, less is more. Spending more time in one place allows you to get a better feel for the rhythm (节奏) of life. You can visit at a more relaxed pace (速度), see more than just the attractions, and open up your schedule to the happy accidents of travel.

When I first made my travel plan, I tried to include everything in it. Then I realized it was unrealistic, and revised my plan. I came up with a list of one or two things I want to see each day and spaced everything out. It’s an important lesson to learn. I think the best trip plan is to work out the general path you want to take, book the first few nights of your trip, and let your travels unfold (展开) from there. This way you are never locked into a certain place if your feelings change.

1. What does the underlined word “ditched” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Considered.B.Discussed.C.Dropped.D.Prepared.
2. According to the author, why does a new traveller over plan his trip?
A.Because he likes to have an arranged trip.
B.Because he dislikes adventures along the way.
C.Because he enjoys travelling on a fixed schedule.
D.Because he wants to include as much within limited time in his trip.
3. What can we learn about the author from the text?
A.He lives an easy life.
B.He enjoys traveling freely.
C.He spends a lot of time traveling.
D.He prefers to follow others when traveling.
4. What does the author suggest about traveling?
A.Avoiding booking in advance.
B.Working out a simple travel plan.
C.Getting prepared for the unexpected things.
D.Setting a goal before making a travel plan.
5. What is the best title for the text?
A.Traveling: Play More, Pay Less
B.In Travel, Less Is More
C.Traveling: A Race Against the Clock
D.Why It Is Great to Travel Without a Plan

6 . Scrooge and the Spirit of Christmas Present went on, invisible, into a small house where Bob Cratchit, Scrooge’s clerk, lived with his family. Bob’s family couldn’t see Scrooge and the Spirit, but Scrooge could see them clearly. In the house, Bob and his family enjoyed a wonderful Christmas dinner.

When everyone had finished eating, Bob poured a hot fruit drink into everyone’s cups. He held up his own and said, “ A merry Christmas to us all, my dears!” Everyone in the family repeated this and, “Merry Christmas, everyone!” said Tiny Tim, the last of all.

Tiny Tim sat very close to his father’s side. Bob loved the child and wished to keep him by his side. It was as if Bob was afraid the boy might be taken from him. The boy had a special place in his father’s heart.

“To Mr. Scrooge!” said Bob. “A merry Christmas to Mr. Scrooge who gave us our wonderful meal.”

“Nonsense,” cried Mrs. Cratchit, with a red face. “I wish I had him here. I’d tell him what I think of him. He has given us nothing; you have worked all the hours of the day to earn the poor wage he pays you.”

Thinking about Scrooge made all the Cratchits feel unhappy. Even Tiny Tim stopped smiling. They all knew what a mean, unkind man he was. The memory of the old man did not last long, and soon, they were all happy and cheerful again.

7 . Why would someone decide to stop eating? We know that the body needs food in order to work well. However, many people fast at some time during their lives. Why is this?

Some people fast for political reasons. In the early 20th century, women in England and the United States weren’t allowed to vote. So many women went on fast. They hoped that fasting would bring attention to it. Mohandas Gandhi, the famous Indian leader, fasted 17 times during his life. For Gandhi, fasting was a powerful political tool. In 1943, he fasted to bring attention to his country’s need for independence. For 21 days, he went without food. Another famous faster was Cesar Chavez. In the 1960s, he fasted for three weeks. Why? His goal was to bring attention to the terrible working conditions of farm workers in the United States.

Fasting is also a practice in many religions(宗教). Every year during the month of Ramadan, which is a religious holiday, Muslims(穆斯林) fast from sunrise to sunset. Many Indians fast at special time, and there was also a fasting holiday in ancient China.

Of course, not everyone fasts for political or religious reasons. People sometimes fast just because it makes them feel better. The American writer Mark Twain thought fasting was the best medicine for common illnesses. Whenever he had a cold or a fever, he stopped eating completely. He said that this always made his cold or fever go away. Another American writer, Upton Sinclair, discovered fasting after years of eating too much and headaches. His first fast lasted for 12 days. During this time, his headaches and stomachaches went away. Sinclair said that fasting also made him more alert and energetic.
