Reasons Why Physical Education is Important in School

Students who are active in physical activities like basketball, volleyball and running are more confident with themselves according to most social school studies.     4     In school, the physical education program introduces these sport activities to students allowing them to make choices of which sport areas they want to get involved in.

    5     Most physical education programs are holistic. The program allows students to interact together to a common goal, that is, to win and excel physically. It not only brings out the competitive sides of students working with both body and mind but also promotes sportsmanship.

It promotes a physically active lifestyle.

The purpose of physical education is to instill (逐渐灌输) in students, at an early age, the value of self-preservation and choosing a lifestyle that is good for both the mind and body.

7 . Shenzhou 13 manned spacecraft (载人航天飞船) went to space (太空) successfully on October 16. Three Chinese astronauts (航天员), Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping, Ye Guangfu were taken to space. They will stay in space for six months. It is the eighth time for Chinese to visit space after Yang Liwei went as the first Chinese 18 years ago. These special “visitors” can take fantastic photos in space, just like taking trips there. Can common people go to visit space like them? The answer is “yes”.

On September 15, Space X sent four common people into space. The four spent three days in space. Just two months ago, in July, 70-year -old British billionaire (亿万富翁) Richard Branson, and 57-year-old American billionaire Jeff Bezos, both flew into space. But some think these trips are for the super rich. With the sky-high prices, most common people should give up their space dreams. However, US flight engineer (航工程师) Bobak Ferdowsi believes the price will come down. “Maybe in 10 to 15 years, it’s a decision between ‘do I buy a new car, or do I go to space?’. ”

Anyway, even we can’t have a space trip now, we’ll be able to have a science class from space. The woman astronaut Wang Yaping will be the space teacher to give us such a lesson just as she did eight years ago. That will be great fun. We will also be able to enjoy a space movie. A Russian film team stayed on the International Space Station from Oct 5 to 16 to film the movie Challenge. It’s the first time a movie was filmed in space.

8 . On April 24 of 2020, China’s fifth Space Day, our country named its first Mars exploration mission (火星探测任务) Tianwen-1. The name comes from a poem of the same name by Qu Yuan (about 340-278 BC).     1    , according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

In his poem, Qu Yuan asked questions about the sky, stars, nature and the world around us. In that times, he dared to question traditional ideas and looked for the truth of the universe (宇宙).    2    , so that is the reason they name the mission.

According to CNSA, besides the Mars mission,     3    , for example,China gives all of its lunar (月球的) missions the name Chang’e, also known as the Chinese goddess of the moon, and Yutu, the name of the China’s lunar rovers(探测器）.

At the same time, in the expectation of people all over the country,     4    , sending the rovers into space from the Wenchang Launch Center in Hainan. It will take about seven months for the exploration(探索) to get to Mars before it can land and rove on the planet.

9 . “Did you hear what happened to Adam Last Friday?” said to Tori in a low voice.

With her eyes shining, Tori said excitedly, “You bet I did, Sean told me two days ago.”

Who are Lindsey and Tori talking about? It just happened to be yours truly, Adam Freedmam. I can tell you that what they are saying is (a) not nice and (b) not even true. Still, Lindsey and Tori aren’t very different from most students here at Linton High School, including me. Many of our conversations are gossip. I have noticed three effects of gossip: it can hurt people, it can give gossipers a strange kind of satisfaction, and it can cause social pressures in a group.

An important negative effect of gossip is that it can hurt the person who are talked about. Usually, gossip spreads information about a topic—breakups, trouble at home, even losing a job—that a person would like to keep as a secret. The more embarrassing or shameful the secret is, the juicier the gossip it makes. Probably the worst type of gossip is the absolute lie. People often think of gossipers as harmless, but mean lies can cause pain.

If we know that gossip can bring so much trouble, then why do so many of us do it? The answer lies in another effect of gossip: the satisfaction it gives us. Sharing the latest rumor can make a person feel important because he or she knows something that others don’t. Similarly, hearing the latest rumor can make a person feel like part of the “in group.” In other words, gossip is satisfying because it gives people a sense of belonging or even superiority.

Gossip also can have a third effect: it seems to have unwritten, unspoken rules about how people should act. Professor David Wilson explains that gossip is important in policing people’s behaviors in a group. This means that if everybody around you is laughing at what John wore on what Jane said, then you can bet that wearing or saying something similar will get you the same kind of negative attention. Thus, the do’s and don’ts became a kind of unwritten rules.

The effects of gossip become different depending on the situation. The next time you feel the need to spread the latest news, think about why you want to gossip and what effects your “juicy story” might have.
