1 . One of my favorite books is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. The story happens in a town in the US. It tells some exciting stories about a boy who has many adventures (冒险).
Tom, the hero of the book, lives with his aunt. He does not like people telling him what to do, so he always get into trouble. One day, Tom discovers the secret of a bad man named Injun Joe, so the bad man is looking for him. Tom firstly runs away to an island in the middle of the Mississippi River. Later, he runs into a cave (山洞) with a friend. They find Injun Joe’s treasure box unexpectedly and arrive home safely with it.
My favorite part of the book is when Tom and his friend start their adventures on the island in the Mississippi River. At first, they are happy. But hearing that everyone thinks they are dead, they feel very sorry. So they come back home. When they suddenly appear, the family and neighbors are surprised to see them, but very pleased to find that they are alive.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a great book. First of all, it tells a wonderful adventure story. It also tells how young people grow, how people love each other and how bad people pay for their actions. It is written in everyday English, and the dialogues sound especially real. Today, it is still read and loved by people all over the world, and is thought to be one of the greatest American stories.

In fact, poor eyesight among Chinese primary and high school students rose from 59.2 percent to 70.6 percent in the first six months of 2020, according to the Ministry of Education.

Teachers should also avoid using projectors (投影仪) or other multimedia equipment (多媒体设备) that are too bright, Beijing Daily reported.
There are also requirements for desk and classroom lights. For example, these lights should give off as little blue light as possible.

7 . Shenzhou 13 manned spacecraft (载人航天飞船) went to space (太空) successfully on October 16. Three Chinese astronauts (航天员), Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping, Ye Guangfu were taken to space. They will stay in space for six months. It is the eighth time for Chinese to visit space after Yang Liwei went as the first Chinese 18 years ago. These special “visitors” can take fantastic photos in space, just like taking trips there. Can common people go to visit space like them? The answer is “yes”.
On September 15, Space X sent four common people into space. The four spent three days in space. Just two months ago, in July, 70-year -old British billionaire (亿万富翁) Richard Branson, and 57-year-old American billionaire Jeff Bezos, both flew into space. But some think these trips are for the super rich. With the sky-high prices, most common people should give up their space dreams. However, US flight engineer (航工程师) Bobak Ferdowsi believes the price will come down. “Maybe in 10 to 15 years, it’s a decision between ‘do I buy a new car, or do I go to space?’. ”
Anyway, even we can’t have a space trip now, we’ll be able to have a science class from space. The woman astronaut Wang Yaping will be the space teacher to give us such a lesson just as she did eight years ago. That will be great fun. We will also be able to enjoy a space movie. 9 . “Did you hear what happened to Adam Last Friday?” said to Tori in a low voice.
With her eyes shining, Tori said excitedly, “You bet I did, Sean told me two days ago.”
Who are Lindsey and Tori talking about? It just happened to be yours truly, Adam Freedmam. I can tell you that what they are saying is (a) not nice and (b) not even true. Still, Lindsey and Tori aren’t very different from most students here at Linton High School, including me. Many of our conversations are gossip. I have noticed three effects of gossip: it can hurt people, it can give gossipers a strange kind of satisfaction, and it can cause social pressures in a group.
An important negative effect of gossip is that it can hurt the person who are talked about. Usually, gossip spreads information about a topic—breakups, trouble at home, even losing a job—that a person would like to keep as a secret. The more embarrassing or shameful the secret is, the juicier the gossip it makes. Probably the worst type of gossip is the absolute lie. People often think of gossipers as harmless, but mean lies can cause pain.
If we know that gossip can bring so much trouble, then why do so many of us do it? The answer lies in another effect of gossip: the satisfaction it gives us. Sharing the latest rumor can make a person feel important because he or she knows something that others don’t. Similarly, hearing the latest rumor can make a person feel like part of the “in group.” In other words, gossip is satisfying because it gives people a sense of belonging or even superiority.
Gossip also can have a third effect: it seems to have unwritten, unspoken rules about how people should act. Professor David Wilson explains that gossip is important in policing people’s behaviors in a group. This means that if everybody around you is laughing at what John wore on what Jane said, then you can bet that wearing or saying something similar will get you the same kind of negative attention. Thus, the do’s and don’ts became a kind of unwritten rules.
The effects of gossip become different depending on the situation. The next time you feel the need to spread the latest news, think about why you want to gossip and what effects your “juicy story” might have.

10 . How do you feel about nature? After spending hours indoors, do you feel better when you visit your local park? Most people think that nature is good for our bodies and brains. However, humans are spending more time inside and less time outside. In some countries such as the USA, only 10% of the teenagers spend time outside every day. Many doctors feel that this is a problem in the twenty-first century.
Some doctors find nature and health are interrelated. One example of this is the work of Dr. Matilda in Sweden (瑞典). The doctor gave people a maths test. During the test, their heart rates (率) were fast. After the test, one group of people were chosen to sit in a 3D-virtual-reality (虚拟现实) room for fifteen minutes with pictures and sounds of nature. Their heart rates were slower than the others’. Another good example of how nature is good for health comes from Canada. In Toronto, researchers studied 31, 000 people living in the city. In general, they found that healthier people lived near parks.
Because of studies like these, some countries and cities want nature to be part of people’s everyday life. In Dubai, for example, there are plans for a new shopping mall with a large garden so shoppers can relax outside with trees, plants and water. In Switzerland, “forest schools” are popular. Students study their subjects in the forests and do lots of exercise outside. And South Korea is another good example. It has new forests near its cities and around 13 million people visit these forests every year. So after building cities for so long, perhaps it’s now time to start rebuilding nature.
