2 . 阅读下面短文,根据语篇内容,从所给的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,使短文意思通顺,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有一项为多余项。

We all have those moments when bright ideas hit us.     1     We believe creative thinking is the falling apple of Newton, but we seldom notice that creative thinking is in fact a process.

2     Newton watched an apple fall from a tree while sitting in the garden. He began to wonder if the same force that pulled the apple down also kept the moon going around the earth.     3     He called it “gravity (重力)”. But when we cheer for the great discovery, the whole process of creative thinking shouldn’t be forgotten.

Newton studied math for long to have a better understanding of the world. He always enjoyed finding new ways to solve problems.     4     It also started the train of thought that continued for the next twenty years. Newton began to examine “gravity” carefully. He did lots of experiments (实验). Then he studied the results and used what he had learned to do new experiments. In 1687, the greatest scientific work came out.

5     In school, we prepare ourselves for the right moment. Once the moment comes, we should catch it and then keep on working. It takes much to get the fruits of creative thinking, but the sweetest fruits will be ready for those who wait the longest.

A.Newton believed it did.
B.So we should pay attention to them.
C.Let’s look at what happened in l666.
D.The falling apple was only the fruit of years of hard work.
E.The whole process of creative thinking works the same in our life.
F.But not everyone can develop them into the fruits of creative thinking.

3 .

When my daughter was in primary school, she brought home four small twigs (嫩枝) one day. Her school gave these twigs to the students to plant. None of them looked very well, but with hope for the future, I planted them in our backyard. Over the years, because of an accident with the lawnmower and poor soil, three of them died. Only one survived.

It grew very slowly. It never got very tall. A few years ago, I noticed that it was starting to die. Only the top third of the tree was still green. Last summer I did my best to save it by feeding it a lot of fertilizer (肥料), but it didn’t work.

Later one morning, I went out and looked at it again. I was wondering whether it would be better to just cut it down. As I walked over to take a closer look at it, I noticed something moving in the leaves. It was a bird patiently building a nest (巢) in the top branches. I smiled when I looked at it. I thought maybe this old tree was still useful. It might not be healthy or pretty, but it was still giving a bird a home.

This tree reminded me that all of our lives have purpose. It doesn’t matter if we are young and strong or old and sick. Until our last breath, we have things to do, love to give, and joy to share. We can help to make this world a better and more beautiful place.

1. Why did the school give the students small twigs?
A.To plant.B.To study.C.To play with.
2. What does the underlined word “survived” mean?
A.became smallerB.was deadC.remained alive
3. What did the remaining tree look like a few years ago?
A.It was tall and green.B.It grew slowly but well.C.It didn’t have many leaves.
4. What might the writer do with the tree at last?
A.He might cut it down.B.He might leave it as it was.C.He might build more nests on it.
5. What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A.We should plant more trees.B.Everyone has his own value.C.Trees are important for birds.

How important is music? Many people usually think that listening to music is nice, but not very important. It is often only thought to be entertainment, but not the necessary choice for education. This opinion is wrong.     1

Music tells us who we are. Music reflects the musicians’ thoughts and ideas, and the social environment they lived in. For example, Mozart’s music represents(代表) a lifestyle, and rock music also represents a lifestyle.     2     He introduced jazz into his music.

3     Science explains how the sun rises and sets. Music explores(探索)emotional(情绪的)meanings. People need to use every possible way to learn about our world.

Music shows people’s thoughts and feelings.     4     Through the language we express our feelings, discoveries, ideas and hopes. All of these can be shared with others.     5     When we forbid our children to receive a good music education, we take them away from the meanings that music expresses. So music education is much more necessary than people usually think.

A.Music plays a role in our study.
B.And music is a great way to express.
C.George Gershwin’s music is another example.
D.We can “talk” to each other in this amazing way.
E.In fact, music education is necessary for most students.
F.Music provides a kind of ability to know the world in a different way.

Let children learn to judge(判断)their own work. A child doesn’t learn to talk by being corrected all the time. If he is corrected too much, he will stop talking. He notices a thousand times a day the differences between the language he uses and the language others use. Little by little, he makes the necessary changes to make his language like other people’s.

In the same way, children learn to do all the other things without being taught-to walk, run, climb or ride a bicycle. They compare their performances with those of more skilled people, and slowly make the changes. But in school we never give a child a chance to find out his mistakes and correct them himself. We do it all for him. We thought that he would never notice a mistake unless it was pointed out to him, to correct it unless he has made to. Soon he becomes dependent on the teacher. Let him work out with the help of other children if he wants it.

If it is a matter in math or science, give him the answer book. Let him correct his own papers. Why should we teachers waste time on such daily work? Our job should be to help the children when they tell us that he can't find the way to get the right answer. Let the children learn what all educated persons must learn, how to measure(估量)their own understanding, how to know what they know or do not know.

Let them get on with this job in their ways. School teachers can offer help if they ask for it. Some parents and teachers are worried that the children might fail to learn something that they will need to get in the world. Don’t worry! If it is important, they will go out into the world and learn it.

What time of day do you feel most alert (清醒的)? Are you more of a morning person? Or does your brain need a few hours to get going? A lot of research suggests that we should pay attention to our body clock. It can tell us what time of day we are best able to perform, according to the Wall Street Journal (华尔街日报).

When it comes to the human brain, many people work best later in the morning. This is because the body’s temperature takes time to rise through the day. Taking a warm shower when you wake up can help speed this up.

But everyone’s body clock is different. Morning people will rise early and work better early in the day. Evening people will wake later but their brain will work better toward the end of the day.

Research shows that we’re better at some activities at certain times of the day. Physical performance is at its best between 3 pm and 6 pm, so it s better to exercise later in the day.

Between noon and 4 pm, people begin to get distracted. This is partly because our brain becomes less alert after we eat a big meal. Research also shows that we become sleepy around 2 pm.

Finally, it is best to eat during our active periods. This allows our body to burn calories better and stops our blood sugar levels from getting too high.

1. Many people perform best later in the morning because ________.
A.they can’t get up very early
B.they have to take a shower first
C.the body’s temperature needs time to rise
2. Evening people had better ________.
A.rise late and work in the morning
B.wake later and work in the evening
C.rise carly and work in the morning.

A.It’s better to do exercise in the afternoon.
B.We perform better after eating a big meal.
C.Sleeping at 2 pm is not good for our health.
5. What would be the best title for the passage?

To forgive(原谅)is a great quality ,but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible.     1    A recent research says that people who forgive others show less anger and are less likely to be ill. How should you start to forgive? Try the following steps.

First, calm yourself down when you are in a bad mood.     2    You can take a couple of deep breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure. Remembering a beautiful scene in nature or someone you love will always help a lot.

Then, never wait for the person who upset you to say sorry. They may not have wanted to hurt you or they just don’t see things the same way as you do.     3    In that case, it may be easier for you to be less nervous. Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the offender(冒犯者).You are choosing to forgive when you try to see things on the offender’s side.

4    Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who caused you to be painful. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.     5    If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from you offender’s point of view.

Finally, don’t forget to forgive yourself. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge. But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don’t do it.

A.Try to see things on your offender’s side.
B.It’s important to keep the friendship with the offender.
C.The next thing to do is to take the control away from your   offender.
D.And it can be surprisingly good for your physical and mental health.
E.We should never be hurt by the offenders if we choose to forgive them.
F.To make your anger die away, try some simple skills in dealing
G.If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting for a awfully long time.
