1 . Have you ever thought about what kind of job you would like to have when you grow up? Many people think that we can have only one job in our lifetime. We all know that this is not true, but quite a few people actually think this way. For example, when people choose a major(专业)in college, they think that the decisions they make now will decide their jobs for the rest of their lives. However, there are many examples where people became successful after changing their careers(职业)later in life.
J. K. Rowling, the writer of the famous novel Harry Potter, was actually a school teacher before she began writing books. In fact, she was out of work before the first Harry Potter book came out.
Former US President Ronald Reagan began as an actor when he was a young man. He later decided that he wanted to do political work. This kind of passion(激情)finally led him to become President of the United States.
The famous 19th century artist Vincent Van Gogh was not a painter from the beginning. He once worked as an art salesman and later became a preacher. It was only 10 years before he died that he decided to become an artist.
Careers are always open to change. The important thing is to find what you are really good at or what you really want to do. Once you find that passion, it's all a matter of how hard you try.

2 . In my opinion, teachers have one of the most important jobs in the world. You educate the leaders of tomorrow, scientists of tomorrow, artists of tomorrow and so on. You are likely one of the most important adults (成人)in your students' lives.
Any parent will tell you that their child is their most precious (宝贵的)gift. In one year, when I am sending my daughter on her first day of school, I will trust her teacher that she will return safely. Knowing that her teacher is an adult she can trust, who cares about her and who makes her excited to learn and return to school the next day. So I prepare to send my child out into the big world where she will meet new children and teachers, ready to learn and explore this big world.
However, before she becomes a real student, I'd like to share with you what I hope for her teachers.
Develop strong relationships with your students. Really get to know them and show an interest in them, their friends and their family life.
Know your students. Learn about their dreams and encourage them. Find out your students' strengths (长处)and offer chances to use them and feel that joy of doing something they both like and are good at.
Get to know your students' parents. Share with us how you prepare your students and how we can help them deal with a sometimes scary world. Those things are what draws your students to you and what gives parents comfort that their children are having a good experience at school. For many, especially the youngest, your role in your students' lives may be similar to that of a parent. Thank you for educating, loving, supporting, encouraging, challenging, and caring for our children, your students.

3 . Could the students from less developed areas(不发达地区)in central and western China get the same educational chances (机会) as those in big cities in the east? Could the children in poor rural areas (农村地区) develop as well as those in rich cities? Maybe the answers were “No” in the past. But now, China is trying to change (改变)the situation(情况).
To help rural students grow taller and stronger, China’s Nutrition Improvement Program (中国营养改善计划) started in 2011. According to the program, a lot more money was spent improving students’ meals. More than 36 million students from 134,000 primary and junior high schools in poor rural areas have benefited from the program. They are provided (提供) with healthy food like eggs and milk from Monday to Friday at school. And the result of a survey shows that the students in those areas are much taller and stronger than before.
It is true that there were differences between less developed areas and developed areas in education before. Recently, The Guideline for Popularizing High School Education (2017-2020) has come out. According to the guideline, over 90% students from all over the country will go to high schools by 2020. What’s more, the schools in central and western areas will get more help to improve their education.
Students from rural and poor areas also have more chances to get higher education. A special college program makes it possible for more students from those areas to go to key (重点的) colleges and universities.
With the guideline and programs, we can expect a fairer and more balanced (更公平、更均衡的) education in the future.

In the 1800s, people began hunting whales in large numbers for their meat, bones, skin and blubber(脂). Before electricity, many people used oil lamps for light. Whale blubber could be turned into lamp oil.
During the 1930-1931 whaling season, as many as 29,000 blue whales were hunted. Scientists believe humans killed 350,000 blue whales during the years.
In 1966, the International Whaling Commission forbade the hunting of blue whales. However, some people went on hunting them. As whaling equipment and ships improved, many more blue whales were killed.
Scientists are not sure of the exact population of blue whales today. They think it is between 10,000 and 25,000. It is clear that the number of blue whales is quite small.
Now blue whales are protected from whaling, but they still face other problems. Blue whales are sometimes hit by large ships. Some of them die from the accidents caused by these ships. They also cut their skin and become sick in fishing gear(渔具) that is left behind in the ocean.
Climate change also affects whales. The world’s oceans are growing warmer. The krill(鳞虾)that blue whales rely on as food can live only in cool water. With less krill in the ocean, blue whales will have less to eat.

The poorest people live in Africa, so lots of African people are always in hunger and often get ill. War(战争)makes lots of people go hungry, too. War can slow or stop food production(生产). People have to leave their hometowns because of war. In this way, they do not have enough food to eat.
In order to help these people, many countries open food banks. People can give food to them and they can give the food to those in need. Shanghai Ctasis opens a food bank in China. It saves 7000,000 tons of food and helps 760,000 people in five years.
Many Chinese restaurants are telling people to order dishes(点菜)by using "N-1" formula(公式). “N” means the number of people in your group. It's a good idea to order "N-1" dishes in the restaurant. In this way, we can help to have a lot of food.

Hi Joanna, I’m having a great time in Vietnam. We arrived three days ago and now we’re staying in a hostel by a river in the jungle. The weather is very hot and sunny. Yesterday we trekked into the jungle and explored. We also looked for monkeys in the trees, but we couldn’t see any. There were lots of horrible spiders. Yuck! Tomorrow morning we’re travelling to the beach and in the afternoon we’re surfing. I can’t wait! Say hello to Emma. See you soon. Love, Milla |

10 . ①April 2nd is World Autism Day. What is autism? Autism is caused by pervasive developmental disorder. Here are main behavior characteristics of autism.
②·Social communication disorder, live only in their own world.
③·Language communication disorder, difficult to communicate with people around.
④·Repeat strange movements often, unable to accept the changes of familiar environment.
⑤From three characteristics above, people with autism have lots of trouble communicating. They look like normal people, but they experience the world in a very unique way. That is to say, the way how they deal with things and understand the world is not the same as normal people.
⑥Nowadays, the number of autism is 67 million all over the world. One in 160 children is autistic. A school in England for children with autism is finding a new use for virtual reality and VR headsets. Priors Court is a kind of school in Berkshire, southern England. The teachers at school are using high technology to help and learn more about children with autism. As children with autism have problems with places and situations they haven't experienced before well, they like what is familiar and they like their routine. VR headsets make the wearers feel like they are in different places. For example, someone wearing a VR headset can have a 360-degree view of a place as they turn around. With the video, they can even hear the sounds of the place. Teachers are using VR to introduce children to situations like visiting a shopping mall or getting on a plane. They can do so in the safety of their classroom. In addition to getting used to everyday different places in the real world, the children may learn to enjoy new experiences such as skiing or deep-sea diving.
⑦A computer teacher, Nuno Guerreiro from the school said, "We're trying a new data collection system with VR headsets at the same time. The system puts together information about each child every day; what they have eaten, how much sleep and exercise they have had and all their activities. Then it compares those facts to knowing how they are behaving for medical treatment."Guerreiro added the school hoped to share what it learned. "Hope to not only improve people to know more about the treatment and research of the autism, but also draw people's attention to care about autism."
