3 . After a busy day of work and play, the body needs to rest. Sleep is necessary for good health. During this time, the body recovers from the activities of the previous day. The rest that you get while sleeping enables your body to prepare itself for the next day.
There are four levels of sleep, each being a little deeper than the one before. As you sleep, your muscles(肌肉) relax little by little. Your heart beats more slowly, and your brain slows down. After you reach the fourth level, your body shifts back and forth from one level of sleep to the other.
Although your mind slows down, from time to time you will dream. Scientists who study sleep tell us that when dreaming occurs, your eyeballs begin to move more quickly (although your eyelids are closed). This period of sleep is called REM, which stands for rapid eye movement.
If you can’t fall asleep, some people recommend breathing very slowly and very deeply. Other people believed that drinking warm milk will help make you drowsy. There is also an old suggestion that counting sheep will put you to sleep!

4 . Five tips for safe running
We all know that exercise is good for our health. But some kinds of exercise may be better than others. Running, for example, may help to protect against heart disease and other health problems.
Running is good exercise, but it can be hard on the body.
Take it easy. Do not run too much, too soon or too fast. Most people get running injuries (受伤) when they push themselves too bad. The body needs time to get used to increase in distance or speed.
Listen to your body. Most running injuries do not come unexpectedly (意外地).
They may include body aches, sore muscles (肌肉) and pain that does not go away.
Take good notes. Take time after each run to write down what you did and how you felt. Look for patterns, things that happen over again. These notes will help you find the best exercise for you.
Cross train. As we said earlier, running is hard on your body. So physical fitness experts suggest some form of cross training to improve muscle balance and to help you stay injury free. They say, besides running, swimming, yoga, and riding a bicycle are good exercises.
A.Get good running shoes. |
B.Here are five ideas to reduce the risk of injury. |
C.Muscles and joints (关节) need time to recover. |
D.Running may also help you live longer |
E.These exercises are easier on the body. |

6 . Communication is possibly one of the most important business skills. Good communication makes you more popular.
Listen. Most of us are terrible listeners. Instead of truly listening to what the person is saying, we interrupt, prepare our reply, or think we already know what the speaker is going to say next.
Pay attention to body language. Body language can tell you just as much as what a person says, if not more.
Respect the person you’re trying to communicate with and use the method he/she accepts more easily.
Consider your tone (语气). The problem with email and social media is that it can be difficult to determine the tone.
A.Try to avoid being too serious. |
B.You may mean something as a joke. |
C.Consider communication preference. |
D.Watch carefully how they act when they talk. |
E.See how others reply to your communication. |
F.Yet many of us haven’t been trained in how to communicate with others. |
G.It’s impossible to understand what someone needs if we don’t pay our full attention to what he is saying. |

Our specially trained maths teachers will teach your child how to understand maths in a special setting—our unique approach enables us to effectively explain maths concepts well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our teachers create a caring, encouraging environment that helps your child "catch up, keep up and get ahead" in their maths learning.
• We find exactly your child' s learning needs, meet them where they are and take them where they need to go.
At Mathnasium we use our unique assessment process to determine exactly what each child knows and what they need to learn. Next, we design an individual learning plan for each student. It doesn’t stop there—our teachers continually check progress along the way to make sure students truly understand the concepts we've taught. Students learn maths at their own speed and according to their own level. They will see obvious changes in attitude, confidence and school progress.

9 . China is a large country and has a population of about 1. 3 billion. But most people live in the east and the living standard is much higher than in the west. Recently, the Chinese government has decided to promote development in central and western China. The part includes 11 provinces and autonomous regions (自治区) with a population of 285 million and an area of 5. 4 million square-kilometers.
The rich nature resources in western China is one of the advantages for development. According to the plan, the government will focus on improving transportation. Highways and railways will be built. To protect nature, farmers will turn farmland back into forest. Since the western part is developing fast, all kinds of talents are badly needed. In June, 2003, several thousand college students chose to start their career in the west. They worked as volunteers. Some people even give up the chance of working in big companies in China' coastal cities. For example, Wang Fei was a student from Qinghua University. Before June, he had received a job offer in Shanghai. However, he turned down the offer. Instead, he became one of the "Go West" volunteers.
Since 2003, tens of thousands of college students have gone to the west. They are trying their best to make the west become more and more beautiful. We are sure that the development will be a great success. China will be richer and stronger.
