文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。作者结合自己的切身经历告诉我们虽然世界是不公平的,但我们必须得接受这个现实!

1 . A friend of mine, in response to a conversation we were having about the injustices of life, asked me the question, “Who said life was going to be fair, or that it was even meant to be fair?” Her question was a good one. It reminded me of something I was taught as a youngster: life isn’t fair. It’s a disappointment, but it’s absolutely true. One of the mistakes many of us make is that we feel sorry for ourselves, or for others, thinking that life should be fair, or that someday it will be. It’s not and it won’t be.

One of the nice things about surrendering (屈从) to the fact that life isn’t fair is that it keeps us from feeling sorry for ourselves by encouraging us to do the very best we can with what we have. We know it’s not “life’s job” to make everything perfect, it’s our own challenge. Surrendering to this fact also keeps us from feeling sorry for others because we are reminded that everyone is dealt differently; everyone has unique strengths and problems in the process of growing up, facing the reality and making decisions, and everyone has those times that they feel unfairly treated.

The fact that life isn’t fair doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do everything in our power to improve our own lives or the world as a whole. To the contrary, it suggests that we should. When we don’t recognize or admit that life isn’t fair, we tend to feel pity for others and for ourselves. Pity, of course, is a self-defeating emotion that does nothing for anyone, except to make everyone feel worse than they already do. When we do recognize that life isn’t fair, however, we feel enthusiastic for others and for ourselves. And enthusiasm is a heartfelt emotion that conveys loving-kindness to everyone it touches.

The next time you find yourself thinking about the injustices of the world, try reminding yourself of this very basic fact. You may be surprised that it can make you out of self-pity and into helpful action.

1. The author thought of his friend’s question as a good one because ________.
A.like his friend, he also thought life was unfair.
B.he also wanted to know who held such an opinion.
C.it made him recall something during his childhood.
D.he learned something from the question as a youngster.
2. Surrendering to the fact that life isn’t fair will ________.
A.make us feel sorry for unfair treatment.
B.make us know it’s our duty to perfect things.
C.keep us from making everything perfect.
D.keep us from doing everything in our power.
3. In the last paragraph, “this very basic fact”refers to the fact that ________.
A.you should not pity for others.B.life isn’t and won’t be fair.
C.compassion is heartfelt emotion.D.pity is a self-defeating emotion.
4. According to the author, when recognizing life injustice, you may ________.
A.feel pity to other people.B.do nothing to improve our life.
C.receive enthusiasm from others.D.take measures to solve life problem.

2 . It was June 14 and the last day of middle school had arrived.

I had spent the past couple of months trashing and treasuring all the things that I had accumulated in my classroom over the past 19 years. Looking into my classroom, you can see about two dozen boxes and bins inside, piled nearly three-quarters high to the ceiling, all packed and ready for the big move. The 22-million-dollar restoration work was only days away from starting and we were instructed that everything must go.

My parents Michael and Donna, wife Laura and newborn baby Summer had arrived that day. The students had heard so much about my daughter and were excited to meet her for the first time. My mother was there to help organize my classroom nearly 19 years ago and hadn’t seen it since. My father had visited on a few occasions, as had my wife. That day marked not only the end of an era for me, but the dawning of a new beginning.

The day before, I had thrown a party for my students. The feelings were mixed, as I knew that this would be the farewell (告别) party in my classroom of 19 years and the last time I would see all of these students together. I thought back to when they were all in middle school and would visit me in my classroom on my birthday. They made it an annual tradition. I will treasure these moments for the rest of my life.

Change, like sunshine, can be a friend or a foe (敌人), a blessing or a curse, a dawn or a dusk. I’ve learned over the years in working with over 2, 000 children that looking at things from an optimistic perspective and taking the time to foster relationships with people make the world a happier and safer place. No matter what a person’s life circumstances may be, you can be the change in their life that will bring them a sense of self-worth, which will ultimately provide them with the opportunity to become who they are meant to be. They might go on to change the world.

1. Why did the author pack his things in the classroom?
A.He was doing a cleaning.
B.He would quit his job as a teacher.
C.The classroom would soon be restored.
D.His students were graduating from middle school.
2. Why are the writer’s family members mentioned in paragraph 3?
A.To explain the family’s relations with his students.
B.To demonstrate the family’s involvement in his job.
C.To list the family’s contribution to the classroom.
D.To show the family’s expectations for a new beginning.
3. What does the writer intend to convey in the last paragraph?
A.Think of the end in every beginning.
B.Change happens for better or for worse.
C.It is no good feeling attached to a place.
D.A positive attitude brings forth good changes.
4. What’s the tone of the writer in writing the article?
A.Bittersweet.B.Sad.C.Excited.D.Unconcemed.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。通过记叙一次社会实验以及结论,告诉人们需要停下来思考生活,否则会错过很多东西。

4 . A man sat at a metro station in Washington D.C. and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, 1,100 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by, and a middle-aged man noticed there was musician playing. A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him. They stopped for a few seconds, and then hurried up to meet their schedule.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3-year-old boy. His mother followed him along, hurried, but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally, the mother pushed hard, and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money, but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded(鼓掌), nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the most talented musicians in the world. He had just played one of the most beautiful pieces ever written, on a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theatre in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell’s playing in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment.

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

1. Why did few people stop to listen to Joshua Bell playing?
A.People were in a hurry.
B.They were not interested in music.
C.It was too cold in the subway.
D.The performance was not good enough.
2. What did the parents do when children stopped to look at the violinist?
A.They would applaud for the performance.
B.They would urge them to continue walking.
C.They would stop to enjoy the music.
D.They would give him some money.
3. Why did Joshua Bell play in the metro station?
A.To make more money.
B.To practise his skills in playing music.
C.To made an advertisement for his concert.
D.To find out people’s reaction under such a circumstance.
4. What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To tell us the importance of music.
B.To show us how to play music.
C.To set us to think about our life.
D.To report a subway performance.

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

The average present merely satisfies a temporary desire; the great one becomes more precious with time going by.

When I was a boy of fourteen, I needed to have 80 hours of community service per year and I used to take care of Mrs. Long’s garden, which was near the Presbyterian Church. As a junior high school student, I devoted myself to it, sweeping the fallen leaves and mowing the lawn (修剪草坪). There I learnt how to cut away dry branches and even helped to plant a sapling (小树苗). Tired as I was every time I finished my work, I did enjoy the time there for learning something new. I clearly remembered that Mrs Long, a nice and caring elder, always treated me to delicious meals and drinks. She also loved taking photos, always with an old camera in hand. It was said that the camera was passed down from her father and she cherished it a lot.

Several days before Christmas, she whispered to me, “When Christmas comes, I shall have a present for you.” I spent much time wondering what it would be. The boys I played with had baseball gloves, ice skates and bicycles, and I was so eager to acquire any one of these that I convinced myself that she intended to choose from among them. But at the same time, I had some doubts whether she would buy me such things because she was not that well-off.

The day before Christmas, I went there as before. With the work done, I was going to leave when she pulled me aside. “Kid, wait for a minute,” she said, leading me into her living room. She seated me on a chair, went to another room, and in a moment stood before me holding a small package that under no circumstances could hold a bicycle or a pair of skates or even a baseball glove. It weighed almost nothing.
