What are you going to do if you are in a burning house? How will you escape (逃离)? Do you know how to save yourself? Please read the following passage.
Escaping a fire is a serious matter. Knowing what to do during a fire can save your life. It is important to know the ways you can use and show them to everyone in the family, such as stairways and fire escapes, but not lifts.
From the lower floors of the buildings, escaping through windows is possible, learn the best way of leaving by windows with the least chance of serious injury (受伤).
The second floor window is usually not very high from the ground. An average (平均高度的) person, hanging by the finger-tips will have a drop of about six feet to the ground. It is about the height of an average man. Of course, it is safer to jump a short way than to stay in a burning building.
Windows are also useful when you are waiting for help. Be sure to keep the door closed. Or smoke and fire may be drawn into the room. Keep your head near the window to be sure you get fresh air rather than smoke that may leaked (渗) into the room.
On a second or third floor, the best windows for escape are those that open onto a roof. From the roof a person can drop to the ground more safely. Dropping onto cement (水泥) might end in injury. Trees and grass can help to reduce (减轻) the risk of the injury.

2 . Education is very close in my heart. My father grew up in a very small village in China. In those days, not many villagers could read. So my father opened a night school to teach them how to read. With his help, many people learned to write their own names; with his help, many people learned to read newspaper for the first time; with his help, many women were able to teach their children how to read. As his daughter, I know what education means to the people, especially those without it. After generations (几代人) of hard work, China has come a long way in education. I am a beneficiary (受益者) of that progress. Because of this I become a singer and a professor of music.
Education is about women and the girls. It is important for girls to go to school because they will become their children’s first teacher someday. In China, Spring Bud Education Program (春蕾计划) has helped over 3 million girls go back to school. Many of them have finished university education and they are doing well at work.
Education is about equality (平等). In poor countries and areas, the number of school dropouts (辍学) is surprising. We hope to do more for the education of these places.
Education is about the young people. Young people are the future. Education is important because it not only gives young people knowledge and skills but also helps them become responsible (有责任感的) persons.
Many years ago, my father made a small difference in his village. Together, we can make a big difference in the world. I was once asked about my Chinese dream. I said I hope all children especially girls can have chances to get good education. This is my Chinese dream. I believe one day education first will no longer be a dream, it will be a reality (事实). Every young woman enjoyed it.

The story begins with the Chinese Emperor Shen Nong. He lived over five thousand years ago. He was very interested in finding new plants. One day he went out to find new plants. However, anyone can become a better student if he or she does his or her best.
Here is my advice:
★Plan your time carefully. You should plan your time for such things as eating, sleeping and dressing. Then make a good regular time for studying. But don’t forget to set enough time for tests.
★Keep your study quiet and clean. The study should have a desk, a chair and some study materials, but no games, no radio and no television! When you sit down to study, you can put your heart into it. Make good use of your time.
★Listen to everything that the teacher says. Listening carefully in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.
★Develop a good attitude (态度) to test. The purpose (目的) of a test is to show what you have learnt about a subject. It helps you know what you are not good at. The world will still go on even if you fail in a test, so don’t be too worried.

9 . Since the World Mental Health Day(世界精神健康日)was started on October 10th, 1992, more people have begun to pay attention to their mental health. So the mental health day is becoming more popular. What is a mental health day?
“In addition to the World Mental Health Day, it’s important for people to take regular(定期)mental health days for themselves,” says Doctor David A. Mermill. “A mental health day is a way to give yourself a break and pay attention to your mental health. It can be any day.”
How do you take a mental health day? “Mental health days are important for people of all ages and can be done differently,” says Cheryl Rode. “You can go for a trip outdoors, make your favourite meal, turn off your computer, or do some exercise. No matter what activity you choose to relax, the key is to do it often.”
What will you get from a mental health day? First of all, it can help you stay healthy. When you are taking a mental health day, you have time to focus on what your body really needs. You will eat slowly and healthily. Secondly, you can sleep better. One of the first signs of poor mental health is poor sleep. 10 . According to a new study, good friends are actually the next closest thing to family in genes(基因).
U. S. researchers have found that we are more genetically similar to our friends than to any stranger. The study suggested that genes may influence how we choose our friends.
The study looked at the gene information of nearly 2,000 people, who were chosen from a small U.S. town as part of a larger heart study. The study showed that friends share about 0.1 percent more DNA than strangers do.
Besides providing DNA information, participants(参与者)in the study were also asked who their closest friends were. Because all of the participants came from such a small community, it made this group suitable for such studies. It has also led to argument. Friendships in small communities are more probably genetically connected, because such communities usually have fewer kinds of genes.
“I wonder whether the ways used in the study can fully explain the known causes which drive friendships,” said Oxford’s Dr. Rory Bowden.
There was one interesting finding from the study. Some of the genes that friends are most likely to have in common are about smell. “You may really love the smell of coffee. And you’re drawn to a place where other people have been drawn because they love the smell of coffee too,” Fowler explained. “And so that might be the possible place for you to make friends.”
