On the morning of May 30th, 2019, Huawei helped the BBC use 5G to report news. It was the first time that 5G was used in the world! Actually, China just began to use 5G in June 2019. What’s the most special about 5G? 5G lets us send and receive information in a very short time. Now, it takes about 100 to 200 milliseconds(毫秒) to send and receive information by using 4G. But 5G will help reduce the time to 1 millisecond or less. The big change that 5G brings will not only make our mobile network faster, but also deeply change our lives in many ways.

First, 5G can connect with amusements. 5G is about 100 times faster than 4G. This means you can download a movie in seconds by using 5C. Also, VR games will become more popular with 5G. 5G will make people feel the games become even more real.

Second, 5G can connect with traffic. 5G will also make self-driving cars safer. These cars can send messages to each other. They also “talk” to traffic lights and road sensors(传感器).5G will allow self-driving cars to have faster reaction(反应) than human drivers.

Third, 5G can connect with smart homes. 5G also makes IOT possible. IOT is a large network that connects everything to the Internet. Smart homes are part of it. Smart homes can make the machines automatic. For example, if the sensor feels the air becoming dry, a smart sprinkler(洒水器) could water your plants by itself. And your toaster could start making breakfast ahead of time or before you get up.

Although not everyone can use 5G networks now, China is trying its best to let everyone use 5G as soon as possible!

2 . Flowers feel feelings. It’s a secret well known by flower lovers. They expect flowers to come out with quiet and soft encouragements.

So it should be no surprise that the Yellowbright Flower growing in a large red field trembled (颤抖) with strong feelings now. He trembled because he felt different. He was the only Yellowbright Flower flowering in a field of red plants, whatever they were. He knew walkers stopped and stared before walking on. He knew he was some special thing, the only thing of his kind. And the only thing of anything is always a very lonely thing to be, no matter what thing it is.

Until one bright midnight, as he danced in the summer wind, the field spoke to him. Yes, a voice came from one red plant in the field. This plant, whatever it was, now spoke to him by saying this, “You’re not really alone, you know.” No one and nothing had ever spoken to him before. To say he was surprised would be an understatement (轻描淡写). Remember, flowers feel strong feelings.

“You’ve been wrong before,” the red plant went on. “You’re a rose. So am I. So are we all, all of us in this big field. If you re yellow, with a different bloom (开花), ________. But it’s all of us, together, that the walkers stop walking to see. Not just you. Together, we’re a garden. Alone, you’re only one pretty but very small blossom (花).” Funny how this changed things for the Yellowbright Flower, who now realized he was really a Yellowbright Rose. Funny how those few words changed everything. Because nothing is really the only thing of anything, no matter how special that one thing is.

We stop feeling different and lonely when we understand we’re part of something larger than ourselves.

Friendship Day is a great day for celebrating friendship. It falls on the first Sunday of August every year. Celebrating the festival was firstly started by the US in 1935. But now this doesn’t only happen in the US. People in other countries are interested in it, too.

The idea of spending the day with friends was spread all over the world. With more and more countries joining in the celebrations, Friendship Day soon became an international festival.

Between 1936 and 1997, Friendship Day didn’t have a symbol（象征）, like Santa Claus for Christmas. However, in 1997, the United Nations named Winnie the pooh as the world’s Ambassador（大使）of Friendship.

The traditional celebrations include activities such as meeting with friends and exchanging（交换）cards, flowers and gifts. Some people may have parties with their friends. Some may have lunch or dinner together. Others may hang out or go to the movies with friends on this special day. These are popular among all age groups from teenagers to old people.

Although Friendship Day and its celebrations may have changed over the years, the basic idea behind the festival remains the same. People enjoy the moment they spend together and express love and care for their friends.

5 . Children are amazing! They ① pick up languages so naturally and easily. Have you ever wondered why? It’s not because they have great natural language abilities. ② In fact, studies show that an adult’s potential(潜能) to learn languages is as good as a child’s.

So why do children still seem to acquire languages more quickly than the rest of us? It’s because of the way they learn. Children learn by simply doing what comes naturally—they listen, copy and communicate. Let’s take a closer look at how children acquire languages. Perhaps we can discover a better, more “natural” way to learn English.

When people talk to children, they often use simple words that children can understand. That’s really important to the children’s language development. In order to learn, children must be able to understand what they hear. If they don’t understand it, it’s just meaningless noise. Listen to radio or TV programs that use English at your level. If you can’t understand every word or sentence, don’t give up. Just pay attention to what you can understand, and listen as often as you can.

Children like to copy their parents, their friends and even the TV. This teaches them how to pronounce the language. As you listen to English, repeat what you hear as much as you can.

Children don’t practice grammar rules but use the language to talk about things that interest them. ③ This helps them learn to express themselves. They don’t worry about their small vocabulary or poor grammar. They find ways to say what they want and they do it successfully. So look for chances to talk with people in English.

Don’t worry about making mistakes. You can learn English better by correcting mistakes!

7 . It is important to sort（分类）your rubbish. If you sort your rubbish, you are helping to protect the environment and save our earth. If you don’t do this, the rubbish will be everywhere and we can’t plant things on it. Some kinds of rubbish will pollute the soil（泥土）and the water. For example, the bad things in phones can run out and pollute the ground. Other rubbish, like some parts of pens, can be used to make other things.

Here are four kinds of rubbish:

Recyclable（可循环的）: Things that can be reused, such as paper, metal（金属）, glass and old clothes.

Wet: It is also called “household waste”. “You don’t want these things but pigs can eat,” Guangzhou Daily said.

Harmful（有害的): such as medicine, batteries（电池）and phones. If you throw them away, they may pollute the soil and water.

Others: It is also called “Dry”. Any waste that doesn’t belong to Wet, Recyclable or Harmful.

8 . The 24th Beijing Winter Olympics will begin on 4th February, 2022. The Winter Paralympics(残奥会) will begin a month later. Let’s meet the mascots!

I’m Bing Dwen Dwen. I’m the mascot(吉祥物) of the 2022 Winter Olympics. I am a black and white panda wearing a full-body ”shell” made of ice. The red heart shape in my left palm(手心) means welcoming the friends from other countries. The bright colors of the circles around my face stand for ice and snow sports tracks, meaning connectivity and advanced technologies. I look like an astronaut, making full use of new technologies for a future with all kinds of possibilities.
