There’s a lot of discussion about healthy kids. Parents want to know how to help kids be healthy.

Being healthy is a way of saying a person eats well, gets a lot of exercise, and has a healthy weight. If you’re healthy, your body works well, feels good, and can do all the things you want to do, like running around with your friends.

Here are five rules to live by, if you’re a kid who wants to be healthy.

    1

Do not be picky about food. What you like eating doesn’t mean they are healthy. If you eat many kinds of food, especially fruit and vegetables, you’re more likely to get the nutrients your body needs.

    2

When you’re really thirsty, cold water is the No. 1 for you. Kids need calcium to build strong bones, and milk is good to do that.

    3

What does it feel like to be full? When you’re eating, notice how your body feels and when your stomach feels comfortably full. Eating too much can make you feel uncomfortable and, over a period of time, can lead to unhealthy weight gain.

    4

Do you know the blue light? It’s a kind of light that comes from the screens of many electronic devices, like TVs, computers and smart phones. Too much blue light can stop you from getting sleepy and you will sleep badly.

    5

Besides watching TV or playing computer games, why not go out to exercise and do some sports? So when your mom or dad says it’s time to stop staring at the screen, put down your iPhone, pick up your basketball and enjoy some games outdoors!

Tell your parents about these rules. If you’re a healthy kid, why shouldn’t you have a healthy mom and a healthy dad?

A.Do Sports
B.Don’t Stay Up Late
C.Don’t Eat Too Much
D.Spend Less Screen Time
E.Drink Water and Milk Most Often
F.Eat Different Kinds of Food

Teenagers need to eat food that is good for their bodies while they’re still young so that they will grow up to be healthy adults. So it is necessary for school cafeterias (食堂)to provide nutritious and healthy food. With this in mind, the government has introduced a new food safety rule that will improve nutrition and health standards in schools.

The rule came into force on April 1, 2019. It requires the heads of primary and middle schools to eat with students in their cafeterias. Schools will also be required to make information about food sources and suppliers(供应商)public.

The rule also suggests that parents should eat with students at school in order to provide advice on food safety and nutrition. Schools must try to find food safety problems and solve them in a timely manner.

If a school is caught buying low-quality food or failing to report food safety incidents(事件), the head of the school will be warned, fired or handed over to law enforcement(执法机关), the rule says.

Parents across China have become angry about food safety incidents in schools. The most recent example happened in March at the Chengdu No. 7 High School Development School. Parents posted videos and photos of moldy(发霉的)food that was served in the school cafeteria. Finally, the head of the school was fired. In October, the head of an international school in Shanghai was fired after health and education authorities found moldy tomatoes and onions in the school’s kitchen.

8 . It’s 1:45 A.M., and 21-year-old Thomas Murphy is studying for an important exam. To stay awake, he is drinking a cup of coffee — one that has two to three times the amount of caffeine as a same sized can of soda. Many students like Murphy, as well as runners, and airline pilots, get energy from one of humankind’s oldest stimulants: caffeine.

Caffeine is in many foods or drinks, but is it really good for us? Charles Czeisler, a sleep expert, believes that caffeine causes us to lose sleep. We consume caffeine to stay awake, which later makes it impossible to get the rest we need, says Charles.

Health risks have also been connected to caffeine consumption. Over the years, people have believed caffeine consumption could cause certain kinds of cancer and bone illness. But no studies show that caffeine causes these illnesses.

Roland Griffiths, a professor, believes that using caffeine too often causes physical dependence. He says, “Heavy caffeine users’ motive change from high to low, or they feel tired or sad when they can’t have a coffee, a cup of tea. To stop these feelings, users must consume caffeine.”

Although there are these worries, caffeine is not dangerous when consumed properly. Actually, a lot of research suggests that it has health advantages. For example, studies show that caffeine can help lessen muscle pain. As a stimulant, caffeine can help improve one’s mood. Research has also shown that some caffeinated drinks — certain teas — have illness-fighting chemicals that can help the body fight many illness-fighting chemicals that can help the body fight many illnesses.

What’s more, caffeine increases alertness, memory, and reaction speed. Because it fights tiredness, it helps people do better while driving, flying, and studying. And while it is true that caffeine can increase blood pressure, the effect doesn’t last long, so it won’t cause heart trouble. Moreover, although it’s used all over the world, caffeine has hardly been overused. “With caffeine, overuse will stop itself,” says Jack Bergman, a specialist at Harvard Medical School. “If you consume too much, you get... uncomfortable, and you don’t want to continue.”

Caffeine effects are real, but most often not serious. Whether it’s a student drinking coffee before class or a businessperson enjoying tea with lunch, humankind’s favourite stimulant is at work every day, all over the world.

1. ________ believes caffeine makes it difficult to get enough sleep.
A.Thomas MurphyB.Charles CzeislerC.Roland GriffithsD.Jack Bergman
2. Which idea would Jack Bergman probably agree with?
A.Caffeine can increase the risk of heart trouble.
B.Heavy caffeine users usually have physical dependence.
C.People drink too much coffee because it fights tiredness.
D.Although caffeine’s very popular, it usually won’t be overused.
3. This passage is mainly about ________.
A.the history of consuming caffeineB.the dangers of consuming caffeine
C.the effects of caffeine on the bodyD.healthy and unhealthy caffeine products
