Thousands of years ago Britain was covered by thick forests, home to many animals which no longer live in the United Kingdom. There were wolves and bears, many different kinds of deer and large wild cows. People who lived in villages were well protected by wooden walls from the animals outside.
However, all this has changed with the development of the country. Today, the United Kingdom is a country with a big population—68.5 million people live there.
