1 . Listening test is one of the most important parts of the English exam. Here are some tips for you.

Before you start to listen, you need to relax. Don’t be stressed out. And try to read the questions. These questions usually help you understand the conversation or the passage.

Then listen carefully to the first sentence. It usually tells you the main idea of the passage. When you’re listening, try to do some thinking and take some notes, such as:

☆What happened?   

☆When, where, and how?   

☆What does the speaker want to tell us?   

In this way, you may understand the passage better.

Please remember not to think about one or two words for a long time. When you hear some words you don’t know, don’t spend too much time on them. Very often, you’ll find out what they mean later when you go on with the listening.

2 . If you love music, here is an easy game that you can play with your classmates. The game is called Name That Song.

Number of participants (参与者): more than three.

You will need:

※A music player

※At least 20 different songs

※Paper and pen for keeping scores

How to prepare (准备):

※One person is the judge (裁判). The others will be the players.

※You need to prepare enough music for the games. Make sure you have pop, jazz (爵士乐)and other music types (种类).

※The judge should know the name of each song.

How to play:

※The judge randomly (随机地) picks a song and plays it about 10 to 15 seconds (秒).

※Players will be given 30 seconds to tell the name of the song.

※If the first player fails (失败), the question will pass to the next player. If no players know the answer, the judge will reveal the answer.

Do you often feel tired after you wake up? If so, you can listen to Dr. Talbot and he will give you some ways to help you feel good.

▲ Start exercising. If you don’t like feeling tired, you should start exercising. Try running, swimming or cycling. When you exercise, your body (身体) helps to give you energy and make you feel happy. If you think exercising is not easy, listen to your favourite music and dance to it. That’s exercise, too.

▲ Keep a healthy diet. You should eat three meals every day and don’t eat too much fast food. If you need more energy for the day, make an energy drink. Put some fruit juice and milk in a glass and drink it. It is great.

▲ Enjoy outside world. The flowers and the nice air can make you feel happy. The green trees are good for your eyes. If you have enough time, you can go out to enjoy them.

▲ Take a shower. When you have a shower, change the temperature (温度) of the water from hot to cold and back to hot again. You’ll feel it’s different.

▲ Laugh (大笑). You should laugh for over three minutes a day. It can make you feel great.

4 . What can you do when someone hurts (伤害) you? Most people may be angry or even fight with the one who hurts him or her. But it’s not a good idea. The best way is to forgive (原谅) them.

If the people hurt us, although it is not easy for us to forgive, it is still possible. “Forgiveness makes you more hopeful. And it is good for our health,” says Frederic, Ph. D, the writer of the book called Forgive for God.

But how can we forgive others?   

First, think of something nice and try to make yourself happy.

Second, don’t wait others to say sorry to you. If the people hurt you, he or she won’t say sorry to you. They may just want to hurt you or they just don’t see things the same way.

Third, try to see things in others’ shoes. You can think you are the offender (冒犯者),   and write a letter to yourself.

That can make you know their ideas better and make yourself happier.

At last, don’t forget to forgive yourself. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge (挑战).

And it also makes you more confident (自信的).

Many people enjoy rock climbing. You can do it indoors on special walls or outdoors on real mountains. There are many advantages of rock climbing. It is fun and it also helps people forget their worries.

The most important equipment (装备) to have is good shoes. They need to be half a size smaller than your usual size. The next thing you need is a harness (保护带). This allows you to move freely, and will hold you up if you fall. It’s important to know how to use your equipment. If you are a beginner (初学者), it’s best to have lessons. A climber with experience can help you a lot when you are learning to climb.

Rock climbing is very exciting for people of different ages. Climbers, however, must be careful not to pollute the environment. Sometimes rock climbers leave rubbish on the mountains where they climb. They should take it with them and throw it away. This will let future climbers enjoy a clean environment.

7 . It’s important for children to learn to solve problems. Here are some examples of situations (情况) and ways that can help you.

Situation 1: Your child is bullied (被欺负).

If you tell your child that some kids are bad and that he should ignore (忽视) them, he may think he shouldn’t come to you for help. If you call those kids’ parents, your child may keep things from you because he thinks you’ll act too much.

How to help: Help your child think of ways to protect himself. Tell his teacher because the teacher knows what to do with the situation. This way, your child can stand up for himself, and knows that you’ll stand up if the bullying goes on.

Situation 2: _______

You can’t always keep your child happy. So what should you do when he is sad? If you tell him that that’s just how everything goes and that not everyone is going to like him, he may still feel sad and think his feelings aren’t important.

How to help: Tell your child you know this is difficult for him. Then talk about different kinds of friendship. Ask him what kind of friendship he has with the birthday child. Are they close or are they just school friends? This way, your child will learn that there are different kinds of friends.

8 . The Olympic Games have a long history. They began in Greece and lasted for over a thousand years, until 394 AD. The ancient Olympic Games were very different from the Olympics we have today. In ancient time, only the Greeks took part in the Olympics, and women were not allowed to join or watch them.

The first modern Olympics were held in Athens, Greece in 1896. Every four years, athletes (运动员) from all over the world take part in different sports at the Olympics. Many of these athletes are women. A large group of athletes at the Olympics take part in track and field events. Track events, such as running, test a person’s speed. Field events, such as the high jump, long jump and shot put, test how high or far someone can jump or throw an object.

One of the most exciting events in the Olympics is the 100-meter race. More than one hundred years ago, the world record for the men’s 100-meter race was 10.6 seconds. However, athletes have run faster and faster. In 1960, the record was 10 seconds. Then at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the record was set at 9.69 seconds. The Olympic motto (格言) “Faster, Higher, Stronger” is what the Olympics are all about.

9 . As teenagers, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize, or they can be small, you may just want to do well in your lessons.

If you find a dream, what do you do with it? Follow Your Heart by Australian writer Andrew Mattgews tells us that making our dreams come true is life’s biggest challenge. “You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that it is hard for you to become a writer. These kinds of thoughts stop you from realizing your dream,” the book says.

In fact, everyone can make his dream come true. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don’t let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want. Do this little by little, and your dream will come true faster because a big dream comes from many small dreams. You must also never give up your dream. The biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying hard will help you get better exam results.

As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good for you to have the chance to learn more skills and find new interests.
