★★☆☆☆ The book is great except the page that says most of your food should be grain.
The book explains the nutrition you receive and which part of your body it feeds. But when it says that you get all of your energy from things like cereal(谷类食物), it doesn’t look right. I just don’t agree with it.

9 . The weather is getting hotter. You are thirsty after playing basketball or riding home from school. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful of what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for your health. There are plenty of energy drinks on the market. Most of them have beautiful colors and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful to your health. Sounds great!

But after a careful check, you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine in them. These drinks are especially aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.

Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one bottle of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty in sleeping and can even cause heart problems. Scientists say that teenagers should be discouraged from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.

10 . Many scientists believe our love of sugar may actually be an addiction. When we eat or drink sugary foods, the sugar enters our blood and influences parts of our brain that make us feel good. Then the good feeling goes away, leaving us wanting more. All tasty foods do this, but sugar has a strong effect. In this way, it is in fact addictive, and doctors suggest we all cut down on it.

“It seems like every time I study an illness, I find my way back to sugar,” says scientist Richard Johnson. One-third of adults worldwide have high blood pressure, and up to 347 million have diabetes. Why? “Sugar, we believe, is one of the culprits,” says Johnson.
Our bodies are designed to live on very little sugar. Early humans often had very little food, so our bodies learned to keep sugar as fat. In this way, we had energy stored for when there was no food. But today, most people have more than enough. So the thing that once saved us may now be killing us.
So what is the solution? Obviously we need to eat less sugar. The trouble is, in today’s world, it’s very difficult to avoid. From breakfast to after-dinner desserts, our foods are filled with it. Some manufacturers even use sugar to replace taste in foods that are advertised as low in fat. This may make the food appear as healthier, but a lot of sugar is often added.

But there are those who are fighting back against sugar. Many schools are offering more fruit instead of desserts. Other schools are making the students to do more exercise. The battle has not yet been lost.
