2 . You already know that playing sports helps keep you fit. But you might not know why it’s so important to get a sports physical at the beginning of your sports season.

1     Most require students have a sports physical before they can play school sports. But even if a sports physical isn’t required, doctors still recommend getting one if you are active in any sports.

A sports physical can help find out and deal with health problems that might affect your sports performance or increase the chance of getting hurt. For example, if you have frequent asthma (哮喘) attacks, the doctor can change your medicines.     2     Your doctor may offer training tips or recommend exercises or physical therapy (疗法) to help you avoid injuries.

Most teens go to their regular doctor’s office to get a sports physical, since your doctor knows you and your health history best. Some get their sports physical at school.     3     Each one is armed with a medical professional who does a specific part of the physical exam.

Plan your sports physical at least 6 weeks before your sports season starts.     4     Neither you nor your doctor will be very happy if your sports physical is the day before baseball practice starts and it turns out there’s something that needs to be taken care of before you can suit up.

Sports physicals are usually good for 1 year, though you probably will have to complete a sports form each season. If there are any changes in your health history, like a new injury or you notice new symptoms (症状), you may need to see the doctor before being allowed to play.     5    .

A.That way, you can breathe more easily when you run.
B.Let your gym teacher or coach know if your health has changed.
C.During school physicals, you may go to “stations” set up in the gym.
D.The medical history questions are usually on a form that you can bring home.
E.Mention you need a sports physical so your doctor can set aside time to do both.
F.The sports history and exam help to tell if it’s safe for you to take part in your sport.
G.If your doctor finds a problem, this should leave enough time to for tests or treatment.

8 . Up to 80% of premature heart disease can be prevented by making specific lifestyle choices. Some strategies, such as exercising and managing weight, are well known.     1    . “A small change in your everyday routine can potentially have a big impact in the long run,” says preventive cardiologist Dr. Beth Abramson.

Get eight hours of sleep

2    ,” says Dr. Arya Sharma, founder of the Canadian Obesity Network. If we’re sleep deprived, our bodies also have more difficulty controlling blood pressure, inflammation(发炎) and glucose levels. These factors can all have an impact on heart health.

    3

“We know that loneliness is a risk factor for heart health,” says Abramson. “Volunteering gets you out and creates a social network.” Research published in Psychosomatic Medicine in 2020 showed that a feeling of purpose in life is linked to a lower likelihood of heart attack.

Avoid polluted air

Exposure to this kind of pollution over time raises your risk of heart disease. Breathing in pollutants may irritate arteries (动脉) and increase inflammation. Even short periods of exposure are unhealthy for people who already have other cardiovascular risks, such as high blood pressure.     4    .

Eat breakfast

A recent study found that healthy people who skipped breakfast were almost twice more likely to have heart disease six years later than those consuming a substantial morning meal. 9 . Cultural intelligence, or cultural quotient (CQ) is the ability to manage cultural diversity.     1     It also involves understanding and appreciating cultural differences and being able to adapt to those differences.

2     For one thing, it can help you avoid misunderstandings and communication breakdowns with people from other cultures. For another, it enables you to build strong relationships with them. Want to improve your CQ? Try the following tips.

If you’re unfamiliar with the culture, chances are you’re not going to adapt well to it. So the first practical aspect of CQ you need to improve is your CQ drive.     3     This drive is the first step towards higher CQ that may help you be open to new possibilities. All you have to do is explore the new situation you find yourself in.

After you’ve motivated yourself to get a bit more familiar with the culture, it’s time to go one step further.     4     Of course, this doesn’t mean you need to become an expert in the said culture. Simply, you should try to get to know the ways in which that culture forms and influences its people’s values and behavior.

Lastly, you need to use what you have learned and come up with a strategy that will help you improve your CQ. You can expose yourself to various media. This is a useful and easily accessible way to learn about how culture affects behavior. Again, it helps if you learn the language of the culture. This may open a whole new world for you.     5

A.You should broaden your CQ knowledge.
B.There are many benefits of having high CQ.
C.To be culturally intelligent is no easy matter.
D.This means your motivation to learn about a different culture.
E.Seek out opportunities to interact with people from other cultures.
F.This ability is not limited to your cultural sensitivity and awareness.
G.It can help you better understand people from other cultures as well.

10 . As an author and journalist, I recognize how lucky I am to be following my childhood ambitions, but I would be lying if I said there aren’t regular periods when that passion weakens.     1     Losing the spark for work may be a sign that you need to change careers, but such an extreme move is not always possible. Fortunately, recent studies show some practical strategies to reignite their passion and motivation.

Hold the belief that one’s passion can be developed. According to a study by Patricia Chen, people’s mindsets fall into two main parts. The fit-theorists believe there is a job fit for every individual and finding the right job determines one’s happiness and success at work.     2     They believe that passion is developed through a learning process within any chosen job.

Set small achievable goals. Chen’s findings agree with other psychological researches. These studies suggest a few other ways of regaining your passion. One of the most useful techniques is “proximal (近端) goal setting”. This is particularly useful when you feel overwhelmed with a new big project, in which the challenge is so great, and the reward so distant that you struggle to re start the fire.     3     Then they are much quicker to complete, allowing you to enjoy the warm feeling of satisfaction when you tick them off your plan.

4     Taking some time to think about our overall goals, looking for the benefits that our work is providing for others, reaching out to inspirational colleagues and setting out a plan with small rewards—these are simple actions that we could all take to boost our enthusiasm.

Take up a hobby. This could also give you a sense of purpose and achievement, so that your job is not the only place to find satisfaction in your life.     5

A.The develop-theorists, in contrast, think differently.
B.Weigh up the pros and cons.
C.Take action.
D.It can undoubtedly cheer you up when work is just work.
E.To apply this technique, you would split the project into bite-sized tasks.
F.Many people are losing their enthusiasm for the careers they once loved.
G.Setting a distant target to struggle to achieve can offer you a greater reward.
